Situation Analysis
Brief History
 First year of Revolt: built a large body of men with grievances; made a disciplined
fighting force; housed in Sherwood Forest
 Robin ruled supreme; had lieutenants to whom he delegated functions
 Fame spread; the band grew
 Band’s organization:
 Robin Hood - Made all important decisions
 Will Scarlett – Intelligence and scouting
 Little John – Discipline within band
 Scarlock – Finances
 Much (Miller’s son) – Food provisioning
 As the band grew, discipline slackened and food was scarce.
 Revenues were running short as the rich were avoiding the forest
 Barons want to overthrow Prince John, bring King Richard back, and want Robin
Hood to help them in exchange for amnesty
 Something had to change, but what?
SWOT Analysis

Strengths
 Strong leadership
 Large band of well-trained fighting men
 Support from stockholders (the peasants and farmers that hate the
Sheriff)
Weaknesses
 Unable to sustain growth (limited resources)
 Lack of familiarity with all org members

Opportunities
 Expand into other forests, spreading the revenue base
Threats
 The sheriff is getting stronger, increased competition
 Prince John is paranoid, could act irrationally
 Barons could undermine Robin’s efforts
Problem Identification

 Increasing Size of Band

 Vigilance in decline
 Discipline harder to enforce
 Inadequate background checks of band members
 Band is running out of money
 Food is scarce
 Sheriff is getting stronger; more men and money
 How do we decisively end the conflict before the Sheriff regains control?

Alternative Approaches

In our case, the following strategies are given below:

Kill the Sheriff

• Wipe him out, no more problems
• Has the men to do it
• When the sheriff is gone, disband

Join the barons

• Has the fighting force
• Get access to capital markets
• Maybe ends the conflict quicker
• Release the King

Limit size of band

• Turn the fighting band into a group of elites
• Maintains discipline
• Solves food issues
• Basically, curtail growth
Disband
• Give up the cause, return to normal life
• Robin flees to another country to escape punishment

Criterion for Evaluation

• Risk Factor for Robinhood and his men
• Feasibilty of the alternative
• Cost involved with the alternative
• Time taken for the alternative to come into effect
• Satisfaction attained with the alternative

Evaluation
It is not easy to kill the Sheriff. Even if Robin Hood manages to do it, his personal thirst
for revenge might be met but the situation won’t improve. But if he manages to do so, he
will finish off the problem, and will gain strength.

• Risk of major retaliation

• Would be to reinstate the popular man so consistent with aim

• Morale of members might become low

• Forging a small but a strong group might equip them to fight the Sheriff’s army
better

• Gives them a better chance to loot the merchants who take the alternative route

Robin Hood’s objective will not be met if he dissolves the campaign. He cannot take
the Sheriff all alone, considering the fact that the Sheriff has an organized army.
Recommendations
 Join the barons
 Take a chance on getting King Richard back and getting rid of John and
the Sheriff in one fell swoop
 Get capital to grow the business and feed the troops
