Introduction
The EVM CE-2 is the development base board for consumer-electronic devices, containing the main
power supply, audio and control I/O and debug connectors. The board includes a 200pin SO-DIMM
connector that can take the DM870 Core2 module, for example.
This board includes the necessary power supplies and can run off an external 12V
DC
power adapter.

Connectors
JTAG Connector
The JTAG header X33 provides access to the processors JTAG
controller.
Note that this port is secured and may not be functional when
protected firmware is running.

TFT Connectors
The 50pin FFC/FPC connector X31 is a ZIF (zero insertion force)
type and matches U.R.Ts TFT module:

The TFT signals are also accessible on the TFT test connector
X29. This connector can be used to interface to another TFT
module.




LCD Connector
The 20pin FFC/FPC connector X41 is a ZIF (zero insertion force) type and matches BridgeCos LCD
module that can be ordered from U.R.T. as follows:

There are other LCD modules available using the Sitronix
ST7565 controller, e.g. from Powertip. The EVM CE-2
supports them by means of assembly options, to adapt to
the ST7565s 3X or 4X step-up charge pump modes:

4X mode (default): R257=NP, C221=2.2F
3X mode: R257=0R, C221=NP

The backlight can be operated in 3 modes:

Core Module Connector
X2 (X29 on rev.1 board) is the 200pin SO-DIMM connector for the Core module. Many different suppliers
are available, for example:

SPI Host Connector
This 16pin plug X7 connects to an external host controller, e.g.
ZPs thePod adapter, offering the following signals:
UART-0 (is also used for iPod control)
UART-1 (debug interface)
SPI, bidirectional, external host is master
GPIOs
hardware reset input




Tuner-RTC / Apple Coproc. Connector
This 20pin plug X13 offers system expansion in terms of audio and
control, e.g. adding an external board with a tuner and/or real-time
clock IC.





iPod Dock
The 30pin connector X37 is a standard iPod dock connector. It connects to the analog audio and video
outputs, the UART and to the USB signals.


Jumper(s)
Module Power-Down
The jumper X19 defines the signal NPOWERDOWN which is fed to the Core module. The software can
react e.g. by entering/leaving the standby mode.

a) U.R.T. TFT and PCB
b) Powertip TFT and PCB

M3 is connecting to the CE-2 board, and is always a 50pin FPC cable.
