STEP is a Student Trainee Exchange Programme that enables law students and young lawyers to gain
first hand experience of the substansive and procedural law as well as the culture of another country.
The traineeships are between 2 weeks and 2 years and can take place in any law related area: law firms,
courts, public institutions, universities, banks, in-house legal departments, consulting firms and internatio-
nal organisations.
Each year ELSA offers traineeship opportunities all over Europe and occasionally in the other parts of the
world. Before and during the traineeship, ELSA provides assistance in finding accommodation, applying
for visas, when necessary, and organising social events to involve the trainee in the daily life of the local
community.

INFORMATION ABOUT BRNO
Brno is the biggest city in Moravia and the second largest city in the Czech Republic. It has a population
of 370 000 people and throughout the year is home to the numerous students of Masaryk University. In
addition, Brno is the centre of Czech justice. The Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic, the Su-
preme Administrative Court of the Czech Republic, the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic and the
Public Defender of Rights are all situated in the city of Brno. In Brno, we can also visit Spilberk Castle,
the Brno Exhibition Centre and Tugendhat Villa (a UNESCO monument). There is also the famous
Brno “Masaryk” Circuit. Visitors to Brno are able to experience a truly global city in which traditional
Czech social and cultural traditions flourish. No trip to the Czech Republic is complete without a visit

Our law firm was founded in 1990 by JUDr. Milan Kyjovský. We advocate our clients at courts of law

Giessen lies in the core of Germany. It is a university town with more than 20,000 students and some
75,000 “overall” inhabitants. For there are many different ways to get in contact with these many stu-
dents, it usually doesn’t last long for newcomers to feel very comfortable in Giessen! Culture ands sports
can be found in and around Giessen as well: E.g. there’s the wonderful big Botanic Garden of the
university, where the people of Giessen relax and enjoy themselves. Not only for sports fans there’s a
top basketball club with a fantastic atmosphere. Yet it is possible to do wonderful sports on your own.
Giessen is surrounded by numerous castles and beautiful towns like Wetzlar, Marburg or Friedberg. The
taste of big city lights is also just a few kilometres away: Frankfurt/Main with its pulsating nightlife, the
big international airport, one of the longest shopping-streets in Germany, various exhibitions on the fair
area and many highlights more! The local ELSA group in Giessen exists since 1993 and currently has
about 200 members. Its local board is very excited to meet you and to spend some lovely summer weeks
together with you in Giessen!

INFORMATION ABOUT STUTTGART
The traineeship is hosted by ELSA-Tübingen e.V., an very active and motivated group in the south of
Germany. The beautiful city Tübingen itself has managed to keep the atmosphere of an old University
town. With 80.000 inhabitants and 23.000 students, it is a young and vivid town, in which tradition
an modern lifestyle are moulded together. In the heart of the town, the well-maintained medie-
val city-centre, which only pedestrians have access to, a lot of cafés and bars await the visitors, and
during the summertime, young people gather at the market place to drink and chat all night long. 45
km away from it there is Stuttgart where the traineeship will take place. Stuttgart is the capital of Baden-
Württemberg and with its population of round about 600.000 the sixth-largest city in Germany.

INFORMATION ABOUT PASSAU
Passau is a town in the southern east of Bavaria. It is also known as the Dreiflüssestadt or „City of Three
Rivers“ because the Donau is joined at Passau by the Inn from the south and the Ilz from the north. You
have the possibility to easily visit Austria and even the border to the Czech Republic is not far away. Pas-
sau has a population of 50,000, of whom about 10,000 are students at the local University of Passau.
A cultural highlight in Passau is the St. Stephan´s Cathedral. With a heigth of 69 metres and a length of
102 metres it is one of the most prominent sights of Passau. Old narrow streets and a foundation of a
former Roman camp are significant examples which show the history of the town. That makes the city
absolutely beautiful and worth a visit.

Łódź, is the third-largest city in Poland. Located in the central part of the country, it had a popu-
lation of 742,387 in December 2009. Although Łódź does not have any hills nor any large body
of water, one can still get close to nature in one of the city‘s many parks, most notably Łagiewniki
(the largest city park in Europe). Łódź has one of the best museums of modern art in Poland, Mu-
zeum Sztuki on Więckowskiego Street, which displays art by all important contemporary Polish
