Another fun, festive project made with scraps!

What You Will Need:

4 Fabric pieces measuring at least 5 X 7 1 Piece of wadding / fusible fleece measuring at least 5 X 7 1 Hair elastic 1 Small button

Tools:
Basic sewing equipment

STEP 1: Preparing Your Pieces

The wallet is made up of 4 pieces of fabric, each measuring 5 X 7. You can mix & match them as you like, or piece together from scraps. You will need one for the outer cover, one for the lining & two for the pockets.

For the outer cover) you could appliqu a fun shape

Either sew / fuse wadding to your outer cover & add decorative stitching/ quilt if you like.

STEP 2: Making Your Pockets Fold the two pieces of fabric you are going to use as pockets lengthwise & iron.

Using a 1/8 seam allowance, top stitch along the folded edge of each of these Place your top pocket strip 1 down from the top of your lining piece
Sew in place along the bottom of the strip using seam allowance

Align your second pocket strip to the BOTTOM of your lining piece Sew in place along the bottom of the strip using seam allowance (In this piece I also added a wee white square in which I will embroider the initials of someone special!)

Measure half way across your pockets (this should be 3 in from the side) & mark with an air-erasable pen / pins Starting at the BOTTOM edge of your lining stitch along your marked lines Stitch down each side using 1/8 seam allowance

STEP 3: Attaching Your Elastic

Take your outer cover piece (with the nice appliqu) & measure half way down the LEFT side (this should be 2) down) & mark with an air-erasable pen / pins Attach your elastic facing in towards the cover & be sure to reinforce your stitches a couple of times

STEP 4: Putting It All Together

Place lining piece & outer cover piece right sides together &, starting at the back lower edge, stitch the whole way round using seam allowance. Stop approx. 2-3 before your starting point & backstitch at both ends. Clip your corners carefully

Turn your wallet inside out through the gap at the bottom. Push your corners out using a chopstick or something similar. Press carefully & hand stitch your opening closed Topstitch all around the edge using 1/8 seam allowance.

Align a nice button with your elastic & stitch on carefully to avoid stitching through your pocket.

Well done! You now have a lovely tea wallet ready to fill with some delicious (non-fattening) tea bags!

There are lots of ways you can have fun modifying your wallets With vintage lace & antique fasteners:
