However,overthelast40issuesIhavebeenluckyenoughtowork withsomeofthemostamazinglycommittedandexceptionally talentedpeoplethatIhaveevermet.Theexperienceofsittinginthe AIMmagazineseditorschairhasbeenoneofthebiggestlearning curvesIthinkIhaveeverexperiencedandIbelieveitwouldbetrue tosaythatthelast5yearshavebeenquiteawhiteknuckleroller coasterride,whereIhavesharedinthethrilloftheimagssuccesses, whilstquietlywearingoutaforeheadshapeddentonthesurfaceof mydeskAndyetthroughoutallofthelatenightformatting sessions,thetechnicalissues,the11thhoureditingdramasIhave beenconstantlymovedandinspiredbyeveryoneIhaveworked alongsideintheproductionofeachandeveryissue.

Backin2008Isurmisedthatthemagazinemight(ifitwaslucky)lastayearandafteritstransition intoafullydownloadableimagIwonderedwhetheritwouldcontinuetogrowinpopularityNow some40issueslaterIamincrediblyhumbledbyitsimmensepopularityandtheenormousscaleof itsenthusiasticfollowing.Regularreaderswillknowthatoflatetheworkloadcreatedbysittingin theeditorschairsimplybecametoomuchformeandwithmyownbusinessdemandingalmostall ofmyfocus,timeandattention,somethinghadtogive.Asaresultofthisforcedsabbaticalwe wereunabletopublisharegularmonthlyimagoverthelastfewmonths.However,withthe unerringsupportoftheeditorialteamandthefreshenthusiasmoffournewmembers,combined withthesupportofmorethan300AIMmembers,Ihopethatwewillbeabletobringyouyetmore stunningfutureissuesoftheAIMimagandrestassuredthateveryonehereatAIMremains committedtoabrightfuture,onethathastheAIMimagtakingcentrestage!

Timesareindeedtoughandtheminiature world,likeanyretailindustry,hasbeen negativelyaffectedbytheeconomicchanges ofrecentyears.Miniatureartisanshaveto workharderthaneverbeforejusttokeep going,whilstconstantlyjugglingrisingcosts withahighlycompetitiveandtoughopen market.

Artisan. noun. A skilled workman; craftsman.

Theartisanmakerswhoworkwithinthe miniatureworldarebydefinition,skilled craftspeopleandinturnthedetailed,hand craftedanduniqueminiatureswhichthey collectivelycreatearesofarremovedfrom theirmassedproducedcounterparts. Sadlythoughprofessionalminiature artisansmayhaveallthetalentinthe world,buttheyoftenlacktheopportunity topromotetheirworkwithinanever expandingglobalminiature

Backinthemistsoftime,earlyin2007tobe precise,theAIMAssociation(ArtisansIn Miniature)wasfounded.Itsethoswas simple;tobringtogether,uniteandpromote theworkofprofessionalminiatureartisans withinthedollshouseindustry.Throughits 24hourprivateonlineforum,AIMmembers areabletohelpandsupporteachotherand throughthecreationoftheAIMwebsite,the associationisabletoprovideitsmembers withtheopportunityforfreeonline promotionoftheirwork.

However,many,manyyearsagoIwasvery wiselyadvisedyoucanhavethebest productintheworld,butifnooneknows aboutit,noonewillbuyit!Nowintheage oftheWorldWideWebartisanshaveto shoutveryloudlyindeedfortheirproductto beheardandyetattemptingtoreachdolls housecollectorsandpassionateminiaturists allaroundtheworldcanbeadaunting task.Thesolutionwasasimpleone Bycomingtogether,byworkingtogether, bypoolingtheircollectivetalentsand knowledge,themembersoftheAIM wereabletoproduceauniquenew publicationforminiaturistsallaround theworldtoenjoy.Writtenby artisansandenjoyedbyminiaturists theAIMmagazineprovidesa creativeshowcasewith limitlessboundaries,

enablingthemembersofAIMtonotonly promotetheirworkforfree,butalso (moreimportantly)togivesomethingback tothecustomerswhosupportthem. InApril2008thefirstissueof theAIMmagazinewas launched,howeveritwasnot offeredinthesameformat thatitcanbeviewedintoday. Initiallythemagazinewas basedontheAIMwebsite; www.artisansinminiture.com witheachfeature,articleor projectofissues1to8being listedonindividualpagesonthesite.

ThenewAIMmagazinewasahugesuccess, sopopularinfactthatthepoorAIM websiteoftenstruggledtocope! However,despitethesuccess,theoriginal editorialteamveryquicklyrealised thatthismediumwasincredibly restrictivetotheaestheticwayin whichthemagazinewaspresented. Luckilytimelydevelopmentsinonline technologypresentedtheeditorial teamwiththeopportunitytousea globalsocialpublishingwebsiteasa hostingplatformfortheAIM magazine.Thisopportunitywasquickly grabbed(withbothhands)andwith thereleaseofissue9inFebruary 2009;theAIMimagwasborn!
