Chapter 1. General Recommendation


1.1. Before the Installation
"Before the installation, read the entire manual attentively."

"The installation of any electric equipment must be in accordance with the current law in the place
where this equipment will be installed. This includes adequate devices of protection, sizing and protection
to the capacities of the equipment."

"Always observe the instructions of security during the installation, operation or maintenance of
this product. Installation, adjustment or maintenance must be carried through only by qualified, trained
and authorized people."

"The power supply, where the supply cable is connected, must be positioned near the equipment
and be on an easily accessible location, because the equipment is turned on and off through it."

"Follow attentively every guidance included in this manual. In case of doubts, please contact the
authorized technical support."

"All slots that are not occupied with boards must be closed with a blank panel. Thus, you avoid the
exposure to the energized parts inside the equipment. This procedure must be performed only by a trained
and authorized person."

"When installing the equipment, always tighten screws and knurling screws until the end of their

Chapter 2. Introduction
2.1. Overview
DATACOM DmSwitch is a line of Metro Ethernet Switches with L2 and L3 wire-speed comutation capability, MPLS features, that allow its utilization as a Label Edge Router, and many QoS L2-L7 facilities,
ensuring bandwidth control and priority management. It is composed by the 2000 and 3000 families.
DmSwitch 2000 is a family of standalone manageable switches composed by the 2204G1 and 2304G1
models. They are equipped with 4 100BASE-FX and 4 GBE combo ports (10/100/1000Base-T or SFP).
DmSwitch 3000 is a family of stackable manageable switches composed by the 3224F1, 3324F1, 3224F2,
3324F2, 3224F3 and 3324F3 models. Their stacking ports allow the connection of up to eight switches in a
stack configuration. They can also be used in standalone mode. The 3224F1, 3324F1, 3224F2 and 3324F2
versions are equipped with 24 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX and 4 GBE combo ports (10/100/1000Base-T or
SFP), while the 3224F3 and 3324F3 versions are equipped with 24 100BASE-FX and 4 GBE combo ports
(10/100/1000Base-T or SFP).
All switch models use unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable ports and Auto MDI/MDI-X, allowing the use
of either straight or crossover twisted-pair cables. It means the switch can be used to connect to other
switches, hubs, routers, PCs and many other networking equipments.
Both 2000 and 3000 families switches can be managed through DmView, Telnet/SSH, Web or SNMP.

The front panel of the DmSwitch 2000G1 contains 4 100BASE-FX ports, 4 10/100/1000Base-T/SFP
combo ports and a RS-232 console port.

The front panel of the DmSwitch 3000F1 contains 24 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX ports, 4
10/100/1000Base-T/SFP combo ports, an RS-232 console port and two buttons for changing stacking
options.

2.2.2. System Status LEDs


The System Status LEDs on the front panel can be used to monitor system activity. Following Figure
shows where the leds are located and the next table indicates the system status acording to each leds
condition.

2.2.3. Port Leds


Port LEDs indicate data activity and speed on each port. Their location is shown in the next Figure and
their status on the table below.

2.2.4. Console and Alarm Ports


The DmSwitch 2000G1 and the DmSwitch 3000F1 contain one DB9 Console connector on their front
panel. The DmSwitch 3000F2 and DmSwitch 3000F3 contain two DB9 connectors on their front panel.
The upper connector is the Alarm port and the lower is the Console port.
The pin-out of both console and alarm ports are shown in the next figure.

Chapter 2. Introduction
The Alarm port contains 3 alarm inputs and 1 alarm output. Detection of alarms occurs when the IN+ pin
becomme less -8V than the IN- pin. The table below presents voltages and states for alarm inputs.

The Alarm output works as follows. In an alarm situation or when the device is powered off, pin 4 (common) is short-circuited with pin 9 (NF). When alarm is off, the pin 4 turns to a short circuit with pin 5
(NA), while pin 9 keeps isolated.

2.2.5. Slave/Master and Stack/Uplink Buttons


The DmSwitch 3000 family contains two buttons to control stacking. When pressed, the Stack/Uplink
button makes the Switch operate in standalone mode, allowing the ports 27 and 28 to be used as normal
Ethernet ports instead of stacking ports. When stacking mode is selected, the Slave/Master button selects
one switch in the stack to operate as the master. The entire stack will be managed by this unit.

2.3. Rear Panel Description


The Rear Panel is described separately for the F1, F2/G1 and F3 versions.

2.3.1. DmSwitch F1 Rear Panel


The DmSwitch F1 Rear Panel contains one AC power connector and one Redundant Power Unit (RPU)
outlet.

The AC power input accepts any suply voltage in the range from 100~240 VAC at 50~60 Hz. An optional
external 12VDC RPU can be used by connecting it to the RPU outlet.

WARNING:
"Use only a DATACOM DmSwitch 3000 RPU to guarantee that only the main power unit supplies power
to the system when both main AC suply and RPU are connected at the same time!"

2.3.2. DmSwitch F2/G1 Rear Panel


WARNING:
"Only use the power supply PSU-75 in switches F2 and F3."

The DmSwitch 3000F2 and DmSwitch 2000F3 Rear Panels contain two AC/DC power connectors and
two sites for Datacom Redundant Hot Swap Power Units.

3.1. Connecting Devices through RJ-45 Ports
The DmSwitch 3000 and DmSwitch 2000 families equipments can be connected to 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps
devices. Their ports accept automatic MDI/MDI-X configuration, so either cross or straight cables can be
used.
Use Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP) or Shielded Twisted-Pair (STP) cables with RJ-45 connectors. Connect one end of the cable directly into the switch port and the other end into the networking device.
Check the table bellow to make sure the cables you are using in your network are the correct ones.

3.2. Connecting a SFP Module


The use of a SFP transceiver is optional. It is not included in the package. Follow the next instructions to
install a SFP module properly:

1. Insert the SFP transceiver into one of the four switch module bays. Theres only one orientation that
the module can be plugged. The optical connector should face outward. The slot connector should
face down for the upper bays, and up for the lower bays.
2. Slide the module into the slot and press firmly to ensure it seats into place.

NOTE:
"When a SFP port is used, its correspondent 10/100/1000BASE-T port is automaticaly disabled."

NOTE:
"Installing or removing a SFP module can be done without powering off the switch. SFP transceivers are
hot-swappable, but make sure there are no network optic cables connected to the module before removing
it!"
The SFP modules that can be used with DmSwitch and each correspondent maximum cable lenght are
described in the table below:

WARNING:
"Signals over fiber optic cables are transmitted via lasers. Although the lasers are compliant with the
requirements of Class 1 Laser Products and are eye safe in normal conditions, never look direclty at a
transmit port when its turned on!"

Note: Standard SFPs operate in temperature from 0 to 70 degrees Celsius, but DATACOM sells under
order SFPs that operate between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius.

3.3. Connecting the Switch in a Stack Configuration


DmSwitch 3000 family supports two stacking topology configurations, the line and the ring topologies
and up to 8 equipments. In line-topology, theres one cable connecting each switch to its neighbour. In
ring-topology, a redundant path is formed by an extra cable connecting the bottom switch to the top switch
of the stack.
Stacking connections should be made using 27 and 28 10/100/1000Base-T ports only and category 5 or
better UTP/STP cables.

4.1. Package Contents

Be sure you have received all the content listed above and check the items for damage. If theres something
missing or damaged, contact DATACOM for assistance.

4.2. Installation Guidelines


Before you choose a location to install the switch, make sure to follow the guidelines below:

Choose a location where you can easily access the RJ-45 ports and that allows the LEDs to be visible.

The sites temperature should be kept within 0 to 65 degrees Celsius and its humidity within 10 to 90%,
non-condensing.

Do not restrict airflow by providing approximately 5 centimeters (2 inches) of space on all sides of the
device.

Locate the switch near a power source.

4.3. Installing the Switch without a Rack


To use the switch outside a rack, you may want to remove the side brackets that come attached to the
switch. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove them.
After removing the brackets, choose a flat surface near an AC power source to place the switch.

4.4. Installing the Switch in a Rack


The switch can be installed in a 19" rack. The brackets used to fix the device already come attached to the
switch. To install the switch in a rack, use the following procedure and refer to the figure below:

1. Place the switch in the rack.


2. Insert two screws (not provided) on each bracket to secure the switch in the rack.

4.5. Powering the Switch


WARNING:
"The plug is the disconnection device on the equipment. The socket outlet, where the supply cable is
connected, must be positioned near the equipment and have easy access."

"Before connecting any cable to the equipment, be sure that the grounding system is functional."
After installing the switch, plug one end of a IEC-320 standard power cable into the AC receptacle located
at the rear panel of the switch and the other end into the local power source outlet. The Power LED should
light, indicating the switch is correctly powered.

In the DmSwitch F1 version, you can choose to suply the switch with a RPU. To do so, connect the RPU
into the RPU outlet located at the rear panel of the switch.

The DmSwitch 2000 G1, 3000 F2 and 3000 F3 have two AC/DC power connectors at the rear panel, one
for each power source. If you are using both redundant power units, use two power cables to connect
them.

If DC power is used, the power cable should be cut close to the AC sockets connection plug and connected
in a way that the socket central pin corresponds to ground protection and the other 2 pins supply the power,
as seen in the next Figure. The equipment shelf is connected directly to protection ground.

4.6. Installing/Removing a G1/F2/F3 version Hot-Swap


Power Unit
The DmSwitch G1/F2/F3 versions are able to work with one or two Hot-Swap Power Units. Follow the
next instructions to install or remove a Power Unit:
Installing a Power Unit:
1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws that attach the protection panel of the Power Units
site (if present).
2. Insert the RPU into the slot and slide it through the track. Press it firmly to ensure it is properly placed.
3. Use your fingers to attach the two big silverplated screws placed on the Power Units panel to secure
it on its slot.
Removing a Power Unit:
1. Use your fingers to detach the two big silverplated screws placed on the Power Units panel.
2. Pull the RPU, using the screws as knobs, and remove it outside the slot.
3. If no other Power Unit is to be put into the same slot, attach the protection panel (if you have one)
using a Phillips screwdriver.

5.1. Environmental Conditions

Operation temperature: 0 to 65 degrees Celsius.

Relative Humidity: 10% to 90%, non condensing.

5.2. Power Supply


The DmSwitch 3000 F2 and 3000 F3 have two slots at the rear panel, one for each power supply. Use only
PSU-75 power supply units for correct operation on the equipment.
Power is supplied to the equipment through a power cord terminated with a thre-prong plug. This cable
can be connected to any type of AC outlet, within the specified voltage limits. If using DC power, the AC
plug must be cut off from the power cord. Use the wire corresponding to the central pin as the protection
ground and the other two for DC power, regardless of polarity. The equipment chassis is connected to the
protection ground.
The equipment can be powered with any voltage within the range specified below, without any kind of
manual section. This is automatically done by the equipment, for both the main supply and the optional
back-up power supply. Two supplies can be installed for redundant operation and can be hot-swapped.

WARNING:
"In case of using DC voltage, be careful so that the equipment protection ground cable (green cable with
yellow line related to the central socket pin) matches the system protection ground cable. This cable must
be connected before any other connection. The metallic structure of the equipment is connected to the
protection ground cable."
