Half-sharp kids

Q I think my Canon DSLR isn’t working properly, because when I use AI Servo focusing mode and take pictures of the kids playing, they are not sharp…

A THE chances are your camera is fine, Colin, but when you are shooting in Continuous AF (autofocus), it’s quite possible that the camera is locking onto something other than your moving subject.

The AF is continually refocusing while you half-depress the shutter button, so if you have more than one AF point active and aren’t tracking your subject carefully, the AF can jump from what you want to be in focus to something you don’t, such as the background. Basically the AF system is looking for contrast in the scene,
