French, British Boats Clash In English Channel Over Scallop Catches

A breakdown in talks blamed partly on Brexit has led the British to resume fishing the lucrative seabed off Normandy throughout the year, while French boats are restricted for part of the year.

French and British fishing crews skirmished in the English Channel on Tuesday, throwing stones and ramming each other's boats — the latest in a long-running row over scallop catches.

The clashes occurred about 12 nautical miles off the coast of Normandy, near the Bay "in previous years a gentleman's agreement has generally allowed both sides to harvest scallops fairly."
