Finished size: 212cm x 193cm (83½in x 76in)

Materials

❖ 3.8m (4yd) red print fabric (background and border)
❖ Scraps of assorted print fabrics at least 3in square (hexagons)
❖ 4.6m (5yd) backing fabric
❖ Batting at least 230cm x 210cm (90in x 84in)
❖ 1150 pre-cut 1⅛in hexagon papers or cardboard and stiff paper to make your own
❖ Template plastic and fine-point permanent-marking pen
❖ Stiff paper
❖ Water-soluble fabric-basting glue (optional)
❖ Milliners/straw needle
❖ Fine thread in a neutral colour
❖ Perle cotton No 8 (tying and edging)
❖ Chenille needle — size 24 (tying and edging)
❖ Fray Check (optional)
❖ Rotary cutter, ruler and mat
❖ Sewing machine
❖ General sewing supplies

Cutting

If you’re not using precut papers, trace the hexagon from the Pattern Sheet onto template plastic with a fine-point permanent-marking pen and cut it out along the inside edge of the traced line. Trace around the shape numerous times on stiff paper and cut the shapes out on the lines. It is not necessary to make papers for every shape in the quilt if you don’t wish to. You could focus on making one block at a time and re-use the papers in subsequent blocks. Make more papers as the papers become
