Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich wins NL MVP Award; Cubs' Javier Baez a distant 2nd

A finishing kick for the ages turned a tight National League Most Valuable Player duel with Javier Baez into a rout for Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich.

Baez entered September as the player to beat, but Yelich outperformed his rival when it mattered most, leading the Brewers past the Cubs in the NL Central and deservedly earning the MVP award.

Yelich was named the runaway winner Thursday in voting by members of the Baseball Writers Association of America, finishing with 29 first-place votes.
