Trump's impromptu approach to North Korea divides his administration
WASHINGTON - The impromptu nature of President Donald Trump's forays into foreign policy led to another display of showmanship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, but it also exposed divisions within the administration and uncertainty about its goals.
In a tweet early Monday, national security adviser John Bolton reacted with "curiosity" to reports that Trump was ready to settle for a freeze leaving Kim's nuclear bombs in place.
Bolton insisted that was not his position and called it "a reprehensible attempt by someone to box in the president. There should be consequences."
In fact, Trump may be contemplating just such a thing.
