History made as Taunton goes on line after 40-year wait!

HERITAGE sector history has been made with the successful launch of trial scheduled services from Taunton’s main line station on to the West Somerset Railway (WSR).

Comprising Class 150 DMU No. 150265, modern-day train operator Great Western Railway’s first timetabled shuttle from Taunton departed for Bishops Lydeard at 9.39am on Saturday, July 27, carrying 90 passengers.

Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow flagged off the ground-breaking inaugural service from Taunton’s platform 2 bang on time, joined by various civic and tourism sector guests including Heritage Railway Association president Lord Richard Faulkner of Worcester, and appropriately named Taunton town crier Peter Taunton.
