FOR some time, there has been under consideration and provisionally sanctioned a scheme for the electrification of the North Eastern Railway between York and Newcastle (80 miles). The scheme also provides for the electrification of the loop line (31 miles in length) from Northallerton to Ferryhill via Stockton.
