It was on Monday, November 25, 1968, when Richard Petty made the announcement that he was switching from Plymouth to Ford. At the time this news sent shock waves through the sport of NASCAR stock car racing. The Petty organisation had been racing Plymouths for 10 years and done their share of winning, actually dominating at times. There had been some friction between Chrysler and Petty towards the end of the 1968 season, since Richard wanted to be able to race a Dodge Charger 500 for 1969.
