A Clean SLATE
CRADLED IN THE VERDANT BASIN OF THE Vale of Clwyd lies a newly created garden rooted firmly in history. The Laundry dates back to 1770 and is so named because it was once the laundry and dairy of the adjacent Llanrhaeadr Hall.
Having inherited the property some years before, Tom Williams and his wife Jenny finally elected to take up residence and establish The Laundry as their family home in 2008. While many people would have focused their immediate attention on renovating the house, Tom and Jenny were unable to resist simultaneously developing the gardens.
Their starting point was a rough gravel path they dubbed ‘Regent Street’ on account of its wide ‘Broughton Star’ now clothes the end of the house in ruffled pink. At around the same time, Jenny’s long-held desire for an avenue of pleached limes was initiated along a wide path linking the house and driveway.
