On a hill
The Mausoleum was built on a small hill that overlooked the harbour side of the city of Halicarnassus. This would have given the 43 metre-high structure maximum visibility, lending it even greater grandeur. To reach the stone platform that was created for the tomb, visitors would walk up a staircase flanked by stone lions.
Warrior statues
Along the outer wall of the tomb’s surrounding closed courtyard, which measured 242.5 by 105 metres, were numerous marble statues of Greek gods and goddesses. At each of the four corners
