Do feminized seeds have a finite viability time frame? I have had well-stored seeds fail to germinate after two years. A mate has just had the balance of last year’s purchase fail. These were just shy of 12 months old. Despite much internet searching, I can find no evidence of this trait.

The most frequent cause of seed-germination failure is improper storage. Enemies include light, heat, oxygen and moisture. First, you must ensure that the seeds come from a reputable breeder. They must be sealed in a lightproof and airtight container (a small opaque glass jar works well). If kept in a cool, dark place (not a refrigerator or freezer), seeds should last at least a year or two and in many cases much longer. Some people like to add a desiccant such as a food-grade silica-crystal pack or some uncooked rice to their storage container to keep
