    Q:I have a 27-foot recreational vehicle with a 1986 Chevrolet P30 6.2-liter diesel engine and a three-speed automatic transmission. I would like to install a transmission with an overdrive for better diesel economy. What would be the best that could meet my needs without having too many complications to the installation?

    A: The 6.2 diesel shares the same bell-housing pattern with Chevrolet V-8 gas engines, allowing a diesel transmission to bolt up to a gas engine with little or no modifications. Using a gas engine transmission in a diesel application is also relatively easy; however, the diesel automatic transmissions typically used a different torque converter than the gas engine automatics. If swapping transmissions from gas to diesel, you should use the correct diesel torque converter specific to your year and displacement. GM’s 6.2-liter diesels
