Drum machine with synthesis styles, sequencing, processing and modulation
It’s been a while since we saw anything new from German music software powerhouse Sugar Bytes, but their latest release aims to reward our patience in a grand percussive style. DrumComputer is – you won’t be surprised to learn – a virtual drum machine in which eight separate and self-contained engines are programmed, modulated, processed and collectively sequenced via a typically colourful and empowering interface.
Each engine is based on a trio of synth modules, which are layered to create a single drum or percussion sound. The Resonator module is an 808-inspired analogue-style synth; Wavetable is a wavetable synth with a big library of wavetables and the ability to import external ones; and Resynth turns samples into ‘noise tables’,
