LYNNE BRADLEY INTERIORS revived a heritage home in Kirribilli, Sydney for a family of six. lynnebradleyinteriors.com.au
It called for an extensive renovation with Rising from compact sandstone bones, the grandeur of this 19th-century chandlery and residence was fully reinstated. Angular room configurations within the L-shaped footprint were altered to maximise spatial flow, usher in light and capitalise on views. Key moves included punctuating the first floor and living area with a formal entrance, reception and library; removing shutters to maximise light, air and flow; replacing French doors joining the TV room to a dining patio; reconfiguring the kitchen and installing a mirrored wall to visually extend its boundaries and bounce light from the bay window’s new dining alcove. Quiet nooks for respite and open family areas are well defined and flow effortlessly. Additions were matched to original features with no detail spared: even the kitchen and dining room’s pendant lights complement new exterior sconces. The rejuvenated spatial flow and rich tonal allure revive the home with stately yet contemporary stature. Garnet and green gates announce the interior palette, where armchairs, wallpaper and a sconce emanate viridescence. Shimmering brass adds a nautical reference. Many fixtures were created with Savage Design: in the kitchen, a slimline pendant light, hardware and hearth frame. I use a mix of textures, patterns and colours and repeat them throughout to create a design language for each project. Using inference in material choices, rather than literal references, enabled the decor to incorporate themes subjectively. Understanding the space constraints resulted in bespoke solutions to maximise each room’s function.
