This month’s article works as a nice companion to Martin’s Fretboard Fluency, but tackling Phrygian Dominant in five different contexts. As with the more common Major and Minor scales, the Harmonic Minor can have a mode built from each scale degree. In this lesson we will be playing the fifth mode of A Harmonic Minor (A-B-C-D-E-F-G#). This gives us the notes: E-F-G#-A-B-C-D-E (1- b 2-3-4-5- b 6- b 7).
