Stamp duty on housing was dumped

COULD IT HAPPEN?

here have long been calls to get rid of stamp duty, particularly from economists, who see it as inefficient. The Productivity Commission in 2017 recommended it be phased out, the Henry Review into tax in 2010 said it was damaging and a chorus of industry players have called on governments to ditch it. Last year, the NSW government indicated it would prefer to phase it out in its review of financial relations with the federal government, and the ACT is already heading down that road.
