What of older guns in a lead-free world?

I detect a convergence between recent articles in Shooting Gazette about lead vs lead-free shot and comments about how older guns, which are not steel-proof, either are not selling or their prices are in decline. Are shotgun shooters futureproofing their acquisitions and giving up on older guns? Is the move from side-by-sides to over-unders independent of what may happen to the material used as shot? What is the future for older guns that are not steel-proof?
