Standard Wagon Diagram PF012A PFA wagon

CONSTRUCTED by Standard Wagon in three batches between 1986 and 1988, the 172 Cawoods Container Services (CAWD-prefixed) PFA wagons were an unusual way to containerise export and domestic coal to reduce damage during handling.

The challenge of dealing with colliery loading points designed for open hopper wagons and maximising the available volume in each container led to a low-deck design where the wheels and top of the axleguards protruded above the loading deck matched with dedicated coal containers with special floors with adequate clearance.
