I once read a magazine article by a writer whose dogs would roll over and pee in excitement when he walked through the door. “They both think I’m the greatest,” he wrote. It stuck with me, and not just because it made me laugh. I thought of how my own lab, Bentley, always greets me: tail wagging, a stuffed toy in his mouth.
