WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT PROPELLERS
The vast majority of boat owners hardly ever asks which type of propeller is installed on the yacht they’re interested in or already possess. They ask questions related to the engines and if they’re looking at a pre-owned one they will want to know how many engine hours they have done and more. Propellers are hardly ever mentioned yet they are fundamental as they affect several important aspects: speed, fuel consumption, comfort underway. With the “wrong” sort of propeller performance can drop drastically: expected speed is not attained, unwanted vibration makes the going uncomfortable and can become structurally damaging to the hull. Any propeller is much like tyres on your motor car to which the engine’s horsepower is transferred to, via gears to make the car move: if the tyres are old and worn, or are not inflated correctly they cannot fully deliver what is expected of them normally. The car will pull to one side, shake and will be unsafe to use and will become a safety hazard. When a propeller does not have the correct degree of pitch it will fail to transform power output from the engine into speed efficiently which will result in a boat that in addition to
