After their late 14-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Piero, passed away this June, Yap Chui Chin and her family were too heartbroken to even think about having another pet in their lives. The grief was so pronounced because the senior pooch had waited painstakingly for Chui Chin to return from her overseas trip before passing on the very next day.

“My dad wanted another dog in the house, but he saw how sad I was and didn’t dare voice out his thoughts,” she shares. Seeing how despondent and listless she had become, Chui Chin’s friends were worried and suggested that she adopt another pet to help get over her grief. Brooding over her friends’ advice, Chui Chin decided to give it another shot. Despite her grief, this was her mindset: “If I can take in a shelter dog and give it a second chance at life,
