Southern Home (SH): When did you know you wanted to be a designer?

I pinpoint it to the 4th grade. Somehow, I figured out there were templates you could use to make furniture plans, and I asked for them for Christmas. Yes, I was that kid who was always rearranging my room. Years later in college, when it came time to declare a major, I was encouraged to pursue engineering rather than interior design because I was too “smart”…can you believe that? It didn’t take me long to realize I didn’t want to be designing and crawling under bridges. I wanted to be creating homes, so I eventually switched to studio art and art history and then got an interior design
