PREHISTORY
Gloves have kept us protected since the beginning. Evidence suggests woven mittens were worn by early humans for warmth and some, as shown in cave drawings in France, went all the way up to the elbow.
ANTIQUITY
In ancient societies, gloves were used for practical and ceremonial purposes. The oldest surviving pair was found in the tomb of Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun – they were linen cloth, sewn by a bronze needle, and decorated with lotus buds and other sacred flowers. In Mesopotamia, terracotta reliefs show the first boxing gloves.
