He had expected to celebrate becoming the first Beatle to turn 80 with a star-studded concert outside Hollywood’s Capitol Records building, promoting peace and love around the world.

However, Covid-19 put a stop to that and Sir Ringo Starr passed his birthday in Beverly Hills in a much quieter fashion.

Joined by his wife Barbara Bach, the musician posed for photographs beside the giant silver sculpture he has donated to the city showing a hand making the peace sign.

If relatively alone, Sir Ringo – born Richard Starkey – was far from forgotten. Fellow Beatle
