As was noted in part 1 of this article (“An Unusual Mission: Alleviating Germany’s Post-War Food Shortage,” January 2020, pp. 26-28), some senior Army leaders have donated books and documents from their private or professional collections to the Army Logistics University (ALU) library. Among these donations is a scrapbook about the very interesting and unusual mission to Allied-occupied Germany, conducted by four American women during the months of June and July 1947.
Dr. Helen G. Oldham, medical nutritionist and assistant professor at the University of Chicago, led the team. The other members included Dr. Esther Batchelder, Head of the Foods and Nutrition
