Hey, sports fans!
Automotive styles come and go, but one of the biggest trends ever was the sport truck phenomenon that took off like wildfire in the mid-1980s and enjoyed a 20+ year run that saw manufacturers and home builders alike expressing their individuality on that most American icon – the pick-up truck.
The new-for-1988 line of Chevy and GMC pickups changed the landscape
Perhaps unsurprisingly, like California Look Volkswagens, the mini truck phenomenon started in Los Angeles, more specifically the birthplace of Cal Look, Orange County, California. The trend for converting utilitarian pick-up trucks into street cruisers can be traced back to 1987, and to General Motors. The new-for-1988 line of Chevy and GMC pick-ups changed the landscape, more than any other single component, and when people started lowering them, they quickly became the cool vehicle to own and be seen in.
