RC Car Action

NEO FROG

The year was 1986. My first hobby grade RC car, a Tamiya Boomerang, was shared between my brother and myself. Since he was older, the Boomerang was effectively more his than mine. He got more wheel time and was old enough to fully grasp its mechanics so he knew better than I, how to hop it up, maintain it and fix it when it needed repairs. As a younger kid, I just tried not to crash it. As nice as it was to get driving time with the Boomerang, I longed for an RC car of my own.

Back then I remember spending countless hours flipping through the 1986 Tamiya Radio Control Guidebook, drooling over the photographs of all the kits inside. On the cover was the legendary Hot Shot and inside, the book displayed plenty of action shots of Tamiya’s now iconic RC cars. One buggy, The Frog, stood out to me and became the target of my attention.
