African Poetry Book Fund

SILLERMAN FIRST BOOK PRIZE

A prize of $1,000 and publication by University of Nebraska Press is given annually for a debut poetry collection by a poet who was born in Africa, is an African national or resident, or whose parents are African. The prize is cosponsored by Prairie Schooner. The African Poetry Book Fund editorial board will judge. Using only the online submission system, submit a manuscript of at least 50 pages by December 1. American Library Association

W. Y. BOYD LITERARY AWARD

A prize of $5,000 is given annually for a novel published in the previous year that is set in a period when the United States was at war. Publishers or authors may submit seven copies of a book published in 2020 by December 1. There is no entry fee. Visit the website for the required entry form and complete guidelines.

Asheville Poetry Review

WILLIAM MATTHEWS POETRY PRIZE

A prize of $1,000 and publication in Asheville Poetry Review is given annually for a single poem. The winner is also invited to give a reading at Malaprop’s Bookstore in Asheville, North Carolina. Quincy Troupe will judge. Using only the online submission system, submit up to three poems of any length with a $20 entry fee by January 15, 2021. All entries are considered for publication. Autumn House Press

RISING WRITER PRIZES

Two prizes of $500 each and publication by Autumn House Press will be given annually for a debut poetry collection and a debut book of fiction by writers who are 36 years old or younger. The winners will each also receive a $500 grant for travel and book promotion. Matthew Dickman will judge in poetry and Maryse Meijer will judge in fiction. Submit a poetry manuscript of 50 to 80 pages or a story collection, novella, or novel of 150 to 250 pages with a $25 entry fee by January 15, 2021.
