HOW IT BEGAN: I was preparing to leave the country on a trip and had to take a passport photograph at a local drugstore. While I was in line an older white man stood; the archival research around the period the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed; and the subtle, and not so subtle, histories that had built up to the moment.
