OUR VAN HALEN BLOWOUT CONTINUES, SORT OF

Woodshed column where I said I wanted to include a few Van Halen song transcriptions in our Eddie Van Halen tribute issue — but couldn’t, due to our quicker-than-usual deadline? issue, so we figured we’d let you have all three songs in one shot — complete with Jimmy Brown’s epic “Eruption” lesson. Please take note of our new (dare I say “ultimate”?) transcription of “Eruption,” which was created with the assistance of Allen Garber, Bill Flanagan, Troy Grady and Matt Scharfglass. And speaking of Van Halen, thanks for all the positive feedback (so far) about the tribute issue! The Eddie issue actually bumped our “ultimate guitar summit” cover story from January to February — after it was already bumped from Holiday to January by our Angus Young cover. I’m glad the summit/roundtable feature is finally getting its day in the sun. Of course I’m gonna say this, but I found it a fascinating read, not to mention unusually inspirational. Thanks to Richard Bienstock for a job well done — and to all six guitarists for taking part.
