      I am an avid fan of YA fiction, but even I have to admit that "Monster High" is even more out of my target demographic then the rest of the books I read. The books are cute, quick and entertaining. I have read both of them in one sitting each. In my mind, that means the books are priced a little on the high side, but I still find myself more then willing to spend the money to purchase them. "Ghoul Next Door" picks up right after the events in "Monster High". Frankie Stein has potentially announced to the world that monsters exist. These (adorable) monsters want the world to know about and accept them. They want to celebrate their differences and not have to cover them up with normal color make up or clothing that hides their special attributes. This is a great message to the book's true target demongraphic, the tweens. The story isn't exceptional well written and the plot isn't exactly deep and twisted. The books are nevertheless entertaining. The characters are fun and cartoony, much like their doll counterparts. This book expands on the character "Invisible Billy", who is a lot of fun here. We also finally meet "Julia" or "Ghoulia" from the doll line. Ghoulia is easily my favorite of the dolls and I enjoyed seeing her character introduced. (Yeah, zombies!) Lots of romantic schemes were at play, couples break up and couples get together. The parents and siblings of the respective characters seemed to take a back seat in this story and thats a shame. They really fill out the story and its nice to see them show up. I have to give Lisi Harrison kudos for her neverending ability to come up with fun 'monster' puns and play on words. They kept me smiling through this book. I also liked seeing more from Cleo's point of view. We learn that she is vulnerable and yet we don't really see her break through her exterior. Things happened to resolve her situation far too swiftly. Three stars for a fun few hours of reading about unique characters. Unfortunatly I can't rate any higher because the plot was too simple and again and the easy way was taken several times when something more unique could have knocked the rating of the story up another notch. I would say this book would be enjoyable to 12 year olds and up. Even if your an adult and paranormal stories are your thing, you should take a chance and read these books.

      Frankie and the gang are back with another story of attempts at monster revelation and liberation. Melody and Frankie have built an alliance to deal with an attempted blackmail by Melody's former bestie, Bekka. Entertaining with the cliffhanger twist introduced in the last chapter to leave readers hanging for book three.

      I read the first Monster High book last year and loved it so I was happy when I saw this one was finally out. Cleo can't believe that her friends seem to be spending all of their time with Frankie and Melody. Frankie and Melody are the cause of their almost exposure and she can't stand them. Cleo doesn't think the Rads should come out and she will do anything to stop it if she can and to put herself back on top.

      This book checks in with all of the characters from the previous books and adds in Cleo's perspective and a few others. Cleo is a very self centered Queen Bee but I found myself wondering how much of Cleo's need to be worshipped came from being a mummy and I kind of wish it had been more directly addressed. I think it was implied but that also could have been me reading too much into things.

      I love how Frankie and Melody are growing and I have a feeling they will always be my favorite two characters. Frankie is still working hard to find a way to get everyone accepted, even after her setbacks. This series continues to be a light fluffy read with a lot of heart which is just what I need sometimes.

      The Ghoul Next Door (Monster High #2) by Lisi Harrison continues the story about the town with monsters and norms living together without knowing it, but this book tells more about some of the others a bit more. I didn't find this one as interesting but it was still fun.
