About this audiobook
The ties between women can run as deep as the ocean-but so can the secrets.
For 20 years, Kayla, Antoinette and Val have performed their own special summer ritual. Once a year, the old friends put aside their daily, separate lives to drink champagne, swap stories and swim naked under the Nantucket stars. But on one of those bonding nights, one of their trio swims out from the shore and doesn't return. After the surviving friends emerge from their grief, they realize that the repercussions of their loss go far beyond their little circle, and they begin to uncover layers of secrets--and their connections to each other--that were never revealed on the beach. What has made their friendship strong now has the power to destroy--their marriages, families, even themselves, in Elin Hilderbrand's Nantucket Nights.
Elin Hilderbrand
Elin Hilderbrand lives on Nantucket, has three children and is the author of 27 novels, including SUMMER OF ‘69. Elin met Dottie in the spring of 2017 at the annual Post & Courier luncheon in Charleston and Elin says, “It was love at first sight.” The two authors proceeded to meet on Nantucket every chance they got and they texted and emailed non-stop. They dreamed of doing a joint cooking show called “Cook the Books,” where they would invite a third author on to make a signature dish for each episode. They also talked about a cookbook called “The Southern Belle and the Gray Lady.” Elin’s summer of 2020 novel, 28 Summers, is dedicated to Dottie and Dottie makes a cameo appearance in Elin’s summer of 2021 novel, Golden Girl. “I will never again have a writer friend like Dottie,” Elin says. “Those of you who knew her understand what I mean, and those of you who didn’t will just have to trust me. They broke the mold.”

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Sorry, but what a gross ending! The entire book was a big disappointment
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Hated this. Hated the ending. Finished it super frustrated. Nope
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The book was compelling and I didn't predict the ending but in the words of the main character this book was "outrageous." I didn't believe the ending and felt a lot of characters were given the short end of the stick. I felt invested in the characters but didn't feel the author put much thought into where they ended up by the end of the novel
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Hated this book so much. The characters were awful, they all made the most asinine decisions at every turn. Don’t get me started in the ending…so ridiculously unbelievable. Kayla deserved everything that happened to her for her inability to grow a spine!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Not nearly as good as The Blue Bistro. Story is very far-fetched and most characters are unlikeable.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Good beach book..engaging but not much value. I am not impressed with the overall view of women's friendships; the ending was very disappointing.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Liked the main character, hated the ending! I have read better books from this author
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This was my least favorite book by Hilderbrand. So glad this wasn’t the first book I ever read by her otherwise I would never have read her newer books which I loved.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The characters. Their motives. Ridiculous. Not a complete waste of a Saturday afternoon, but so very not a successful one, either.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book had so many things that intertwined beautifully. Love, loss, affairs, friendships, family, marriage and children. It was better than I expected it to be.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great novel told from three points of view - Mom Kayla, son Theo and husband Raoul. Every labor day weekend for 20 years, three women gather for their Night swimming ritual, bonding and sharing secrets. Except this year, Antoinette disappears and can't be found. What happened and why? Kayla finds everything she believed in crumbling.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Story of three friends--Kayla, Val and Antoinette--who have a yearly tradition of getting together the Friday of Labor Day Weekend for a night swim in the Atlantic Ocean off the island of Nantucket, Mass., sharing champagne, decadent food, and secrets. On this, their 20th anniversary of friendship and "Night Swimmers", tragedy strikes and the ensuing fall-out is disastrous for all involved. This is my second Hilderbrand novel. She's an excellent writer, and I once again could not put the book down until I was finished. This would have received a higher rating because it was very well written, but I was SO unhappy with these selfish, lying, and sometimes cruel people! It was such a tangled mess of deception, betrayals, outright lies and lies of omission. There were moments in this book that made me want to shake people because their stupid behavior caused even further complications in their lives. As far as the married life of Raoul and Kayla--I don't know how they sustained such a seemingly happy marriage and wonderful family life for so many years when they obviously could not communicate about the important things. The ending infuriated me. My first words to myself upon closing the book were, "Kayla is an idiot."
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This was a departure from my normal reading material. It was a fast read...kind of trashy...and the end was less than satisfying. This would be a good book for someone looking for a quick beach read. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5While not as polished (and a bit more sensationalistic) as her later works, Hilderbrand again has written a compelling and readable story about Nantucket and the bonds between women.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5A lot of bad things happen to the main character - not sure the ending is very satisfying. - Greg
