Madison is dealing with a new junior high school, an distracted single-parent father, missing best friend, and a soccer leader who wants her off the team. She is also strongly interested in learning everything she can about becoming a Defense Attorney, like her father. While she is confident on the soccer field, when Jake, a new boy, pays attention to her she is unsure of what it means. She does have a confidant in her father's elderly secretary and asks her how to "know if someone is your boyfriend instead of just a friend?" She and Jake attempt to solve a missing person her father's client is accused of murdering (getting into hot water for some of their actions while doing so) and to find Madison's missing best friend.
