About this audiobook
When Brad Meltzer's first son was born eight years ago, the bestselling writer and new father started compiling a list of heroes whose virtues and talents he wanted to share with his son: Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Jim Henson, Amelia Earhart, Muhammad Ali . . . and so many more, each one an ordinary person who was able to achieve the extraordinary. The list grew to include the fifty-two amazing people now gathered in Heroes for My Son, a book that parents and their children-sons and daughters alike-can now enjoy together as they choose heroes of their own.
From the Wright Brothers, who brought extra building materials to every test flight, planning ahead for failure, to Miep Gies, who risked her life to protect Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis during World War II, Heroes for My Son brings well-known figures together with less famous ones, telling the inspiring, behind-the-scenes stories of the moment that made them great. They are a miraculous group with one thing in common: each is an example of the spectacular potential that can be found in all of us.
Heroes for My Son is an unforgettable audiobook of timeless wisdom, one that families everywhere can share again and again.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I borrowed this book from the library. Now I plan to buy it
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed the variety of people that he talked about in the book and it makes me interested to more about some of them, but I felt like some of it was a bit short and seen through rose-colored glasses, in a way, looking only at the positives. Overall, I enjoyed it very much and it was a nice, read a bit here and there book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5After hearing the author talk about this book recently on NPR Radio, I decided to look at the book. I liked what I saw and purchased a copy. The author has chosen a little over fifty people he considers heroes and written a short summary of what they did to make them heroes in his mind. In the introduction, and in talks the author has given about his book, he has said that he felt it would be very worthwhile to provide his son with a list of heroes to know about. He goes on to describe the typical young child's hero as simply someone who is currently well known. The author, and most of us know that that criteria alone is not really very adequate and that it is important for young people to know what most of us do consider credentials for heroic stature. As the author states, his chosen heroes have reached the status for any of several reasons, and that some are well known, some not.The author feels that the reader probably knowws some and maybe many more that could be added. He has left space at the end of the book for the reader to add his own favorite hero to the book, before giving it to his son or daughter. He has also left the dedication of the book up to the reader to fill in.In this way the author expects you to personalize the book and to pass it on to a young person.I have read each entry and am impressed by the author's choices for inclusion and his clear style in summarizing each person's reason for inclusion.
