But when both sisters are caught up in a drug deal - wrong place, wrong time - it falls to Sadie to confess to a crime she didn't commit to keep Carla out of jail and Lulu out of foster care. Sadie is supposed to get off with a slap on the wrist, but somehow, impossibly, gets sentenced to six months in juvie. As life as Sadie knew it disappears beyond the stark bars of her cell, her anger - at her ex-boyfriend, at Carla, and at herself - fills the empty space left behind.       Sadie and her older sister Carla get arrested for being involved in a drug deal; for both it's wrong time, wrong place. But Sadie agrees to take the fall for Carla so that Lulu won't be without her mother for four years. As a juvenile and first-time offender, Sadie expects to get off easy but doesn't count on a hard-ass judge to throw the book at her and give her six months in juvenile detention. There's not much of a personal transformation with Sadie as with Nikki in "Criminal." But then Sadie knows the truth of her situation and sacrifice, and she mainly serves as an observer of life on the inside, and the seamier side of intent and broken trust.

      Now for the most part, I was really impressed with this book. But that bloody ending really let it down.

      Gah. I could see what the author was trying to do, but it didn't work, in my opinion...

      You see, it went from Sadie being a very likable character, who although in this horrible situation, tried to see the best in people. But, the story just ended.

      Literally. Ended.

      One minute Sadie was having a life revelation, thinking that this isn't the end just because she is in Juvie; and the next, the book stopped.

      I was half convinced my library copy had missing pages. Alas, no. The author tried to do something different, almost unexpected, but it didn't work for me.
