About this audiobook

The most highly-anticipated novel in the Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series since Acheron is here—the unforgettable story of Styxx, Acheron's twin brother and one of the most powerful beings on earth

Just when you thought doomsday was over . . .

Centuries ago Acheron saved the human race by imprisoning an ancient evil bent on absolute destruction. Now that evil has been unleashed and it is out for revenge.

As the twin to Acheron, Styxx hasn't always been on his brother's side. They've spent more centuries going at each other's throats than protecting their backs. Now Styxx has a chance to prove his loyalty to his brother, but only if he's willing to trade his life and future for Acheron's.

The Atlantean goddess of Wrath and Misery, Bethany was born to right wrongs. But it was never a task she relished. Until now.

She owes Acheron a debt that she vows to repay, no matter what it takes. He will join their fellow gods in hell and nothing is going to stop her. But things are never what they seem, and Acheron is no longer the last of his line. Styxx and Acheron must put aside their past and learn to trust each other or more will suffer.

Yet it's hard to risk your own life for someone who once tried to take yours, even when it's your own twin, and when loyalties are skewed and no one can be trusted, not even yourself, how do you find a way back from the darkness that wants to consume the entire world? One that wants to start by devouring your very soul?

Oh, it has a cover. I like it.

    After reading:
Oh man.. I never really hated Styxx, but this book... I think this is my favourite so far. I like it better than Acheron even.

Good Gods but Styxx went through a lot of abuse at the hands of almost everyone he knew, to come out the other side with even a modicum of sanity or compassion is astounding and to know that Sherrilyn Kenyon based some of the abuse on personal experience? Wow.

Styxx is Acheron's brother, his twin, the one who appeared to be favoured, who appeared to be having a much better life than his brother. However his life was as full of abuse, only his was subtler, less overt and every time he tried to make his, or anyone elses life better it seemed to foul things up.

However he manages to keep sane (for certain values of sane) and with a sense of humour intact and willing to help to keep evil at bay. I loved the story and the characters and want more.

I wasn't sure if i was ready to read this or not. Styxx was the villain after all in Acheron...or was he? There were hints in Acheron that things were not perfect for Styxx. And in this book goes into the tale of the second twin, the one that was supposed to be born to the Queen. Being a telepath in a world that did not understand it, having a direct connection to your twin and suffering his physical pain? Are we surprised that Styxx had issues.

In this novel we come to understand, empathize and actually like Styxx. He tried his hardest to gain the love of his family and the only member who had been willing to love him was taken away he learns to suffer in silence and oh boy does he suffer.

I can honestly say that the wait for this book was well worth it. If you can read or reread Acheron and then read Styxx. You will find a whole new understanding of these characters and a new respect for this highly talented writer.

Growing up in an ancient world can be hard, but growing up in an ancient world while being prepared to become a king one day is even harder. Throw in a twin brother that everyone seems to care about more than you, a sister who thinks you’re an arrogant jerk, and, of course, some Gods and Goddesses to mess things up even more, and you have Styxx by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Not only is this book beautifully written and extremely detailed, but absolutely enthralling. It will answer your initial questions but still leave you with even more! This book will definitely make it into your “Top Ten” list and stay at the top of your bookshelf for repeat reads. If you’re interested in Greek Mythology, (or really, any other mythology) a well-written romance with a little bit of heartbreak, battle, and sibling rivalry—then this is definitely the book for you. Kenyon has absolutely outdone herself with this 800+ page novel. It’s sure to keep readers interested until the very end and craving more.

I'm a huge fan of the series and love Acheron. I even named my cat Acheron. I didn't see how the author could make Styxx interesting with a good character and a history different from the one so well developed in prior books of the series. Oh, but I was so wrong and should not have doubted Sherrilyn Kenyon's ability as an author, (not that I realized I was). My cat is still named Acheron, but my next pet may well be named Styxx. I received this book as a gift and had it read in seven days. It was during the holidays and family kept me busy or I would of read it faster. Definitely stayed awake at night reading. This book answers many questions, introduces new information, involves past characters and makes you interested in reading the next book. It is fast paced and keeps readers interested in what is going to happen next. Poor Styxx. Just when he thinks things cannot possibly get any worse, they do get unimaginably worse. Many times I felt sorry for him that his character is immortal. Sometimes death might have brought him peace. I think you could read this book out of order and still make sense of the story. The author does a good job of explaining past issues without boring readers who have read the series to death. Read this book. At the very least you will be glad you are not Styxx.

Absolutely love this character!! He is amazing, great contrast to Acheron. I wasn't sure if I would be able to get past the same information I knew was in Acherons story however this did amazing at clarifiying and adding a whole new list of characters to love and hate. Definitely on my wishlist. Will keep watching for more to come from Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Long the boogeyman in the closet of the Dark-Hunter's world, it's been no secret for the past few books that Styxx's story had more to it than simply being evil. And after 836 pages, most of them full of abuse, torture, familial betrayal and brutalization, he finally does get his HEA. This can't have been a pleasure to write. Nor was much of it pleasant to read. But it certainly does answer a lot of questions.

For those who don't know, Styxx is the twin brother to Acheron. Except for their eyes they look exactly alike. He is first introduced in Night Embrace (book 3) helping the God Dionysus cause chaos for Acheron and the Dark-Hunters. He wasn't very likable, and I wondered how I would come to like him. But reading this book brings the truths out and Acheron & Styxx's relationship full circle. One of the hardest books (besides Acheron) I've read. The constant cruelty is almost too much. That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing Styxx's side of things. Knowing both Acheron's side and now Styxx's, explained many things. It was a lot of past history to get through and the revelation at the end so surprising. But it was worth it. If you read Styxx make sure you have a box of tissues, there are a lot of heart wrenching moments. Sherrilyn Kenyon writes tortured heroes like no other. It amazes me every time. How much her heroes have been to hell and back but still learn to have hope and love again. A must read in my eyes!

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Chelle:*Audible Audio bookI just finished listening and am in utter and complete awe. Fred's narration was impeccable, but the story that Sherrilyn Kenyon laid out with this novel is truly one for the ages. Stellar, epic, and mind blowing are just a few of my first impressions.I went into this book incredibly hesitant. I love Acheron, and therefore had a deep seated hatred for Styxx, even though his appearances in past installments was very limited and splotchy at best. Now we know why... Though instead of magically transforming a villain into a lovable hero, Sherrilyn told a well known tale from another perspective and proved how perception and degrees of separation can seriously twist the truth. In the telling of this tale, Sherrilyn made me feel things I didn't think a book could make me feel - stomach turning revulsion (this book is VERY dark and incredibly violent in many parts!), seething hatred, breath catching anticipation, gut clenching agony from sorrow, loss, & loneliness, the weight lifting rush of relief, the heart clenching press of love, and over and over, the rush of anxiety, drama, anticipation, and surprise. It was almost exhausting, but utterly wonderful. She turned what I THOUGHT I knew about Acheron, Styxx and several others on its ear, and made me rebuild my perception of almost the entire primary cast and crew of the DH world. I can only shake my head at the wonder of it all, and feel giddy for what's to come now that the record's been set straight. A lot of fans were upset that Styxx's book was slotted here before others', but after having enjoyed it, I can't imagine anybody else's being here, and the heightened anticipation for future novels of the DH universe is greater than ever (and that is saying a lot), and I hadn't thought it possible - no, I would have said that it was utterly IMpossible for me to love a character more than I love Ash - but I stand corrected, as Styxx has claimed my heart like no other character has before; in any series.Every single DH fan must read or listen to this book. It's a catalyst, and I'm assuming only just the beginning of SO much more as Sherrilyn merges the Chronicles of Nick with the Dark-Hunter/Were-Hunter/Dream-Hunter timelines. Highly recommended!

I found this book incredibly difficult to finish. The sexual abuse, rape and violence was harrowing. It didn't stop for hundreds of pages and was a misery to read. I can usually manage a fair amount of gore and bad stuff and am fairly stoic and can cope. Not with this book. I guess I understand the idea of putting our heroes and heroines through hell to in some way make the redemption or make the end that much more shiney, but to be honest all it did was make me feel like crap. The frustration I felt and the sadness did not enhance my experience. Just made me feel sad. As a reader, I don't think it is necessary and all it did was make me feel unhappy for about 700 pages.

Read/Listened for Fun (Kindle/Audible)Overall Rating: 5.00Story Rating: 5.00Character Rating: 5.00Audio Rating: 3.50 (not part of the overall rating)First Thought when Finished: Styxx left me absolutely gutted and wondering just where we go from here!Story Thoughts: Just going to say upfront that there is no way I can tell you what I loved, cried, yelled, and screamed over without spoilers. So this is going to be the most generic review you have ever read in your life. In fact, let me just sum it up this way: If you loves Acheron then Styxx is a book you must read. If you have felt that the series has kind of gotten "off-track" then this is the book to bring you back in the fold. Things happen! Perspectives change! People are not what you think!Character Thoughts: You really don't know Styxx until this story. In fact, I would venture to say that you really don't know a few characters fully until this story. Read but be prepared to want to punch a few of your favorites in the jaw and knock some sense in them. Be prepared to have new favorites and loves. Be prepared to actually scream at the characters to just sit the heck down and have a conversation. So basically just be prepared to be spinned around on what you think the characters are capable of because there are things that will shock you!Audio Thoughts Narrated by Fred Berman /LENGTH 31 hrs and 8 minsMy audio rating has more to do with subject matter than the actual narration. I actually think Fred did an excellent job as a narrator but some things were just so darn hard to listen too. In fact, I had the same problem with Ash's book so I wasn't that shocked when the audio just overall didn't work for me. I think now that I have the story down, I could listen to the whole thing on audio but the initial gut wrenching was just way to painful to hear. Actually that is an nod to Fred because he made me feel everything Styxx was doing. I would just recommend that your read Styxx first so your prepped for it!Final Thoughts: STYXX!
