About this audiobook

Rory Miller thought her life was over when a notorious serial killer set his sights on her, forcing her family into witness protection. But her new home, a remote island with azure blue skies and white-sand beaches, seems like heaven on earth…at least at first.

Juniper Landing isn't like other islands. And the truth about the swirling fog that rolls in each morning is even more terrifying than being hunted by Steven Nell. Now that Rory knows about the real Juniper Landing, she must face the most painful truth of all: she can never go home again.

From the bestselling author of the Private and Privilege series comes the second novel in a gripping trilogy about a girl who must leave behind the only life she's ever known-without looking back.

A good way to spend a few hours and that's about it.

I'd give this a 3.5 but went with the three for the cliffhanger ending. Look for full review in a bit.

“Life” continues for Rory and her family at Juniper Landing, the limbo world where their souls are living while waiting for unfinished business to be finished. But someone is changing the way things work, and the balance is shifting--more souls are going to the Shadowlands than the Light. Juniper Landing is dying and some of the locals want to blame Rory.

I was excited about this second book in the series and was enjoying the build of the mystery only to be stopped at the cliff, literally and figuratively. While I enjoyed the ride, the ending colors everything gray, much like the soul sucking fog. This trend of the second book in a series just feeling like a place filler and teaser annoys me. In spite of all of that, it read fast; Hereafter did not feel like 320 pages on my Kindle. I’ll definitely buy it for the high school to add to the series. I hope the ending isn’t too far away--I’ll have cranky seniors if it is. :)

    O.M.G. this book!!

It started off kind of slow with the first few chapters, but as it went on, it got better! And by the end I was so not wanting to put it down!

In the middle of the book, I began to grow suspicious of one of my favorite characters in the book and found out I was right. And from the beginning I was already suspicious of one I didn't like very much. I was right about them too. I did take a peak at the end after I got suspicious of one of the characters and realized early I was right. But, even if I hadn't peaked, one part confirmed my suspicions. (Yes, I peaked because I just couldn't handle the suspense but I wasn't expecting it to actually give it away like it did! lol)

But even with my peak, the book still wasn't ruined for me. This book, for me, was just amazing!

A little bit of spooky but of course not overdone. Just enough to creep you out a little.

There are no real words to say how I am really feeling about this book. Even if their were, this 'review' would probably go on forever.

All the characters in this book made you either really love some people or hate them. And there were some who really redeemed themselves and that I fell in love with another one in particular, Joaquin, and began replacing my other favorite.

I really would like to see Joaquin & Rory get together by the end of the next book. But, unfortunately, Endless isn't due to come out until July 2014. I guess that's not too much of a long wait and at least I won't have to wait a year or more to get my hands on it! I can't wait to see how this trilogy concludes!

I did like the first book better, but this one was very good for a second book. I did have the "bad" person figured out fairly early on, but the journey to the end was a very fun ride. I can't wait to read the third book.

When Rory realizes that she's dead, she begins to question her very existence. Told that her job is now to usher souls into the next phase of life, she begins working with the other "lifers" at Juniper Landing.Let me start by saying that this is an interesting story line and the author can write. I found myself caring about the characters and trying to unravel the mysteries myself. However, I absolutely hate how the author ended the book. She was building up to a climactic moment and then...the end. This made the book itself lack any purpose whatsoever. It was all building to a moment and then suddenly ended. Ugh, so frustrating. I doubt I will pick up the next book in the series, the author has just pissed me off.

A lot of people were disappointed with this book when it first came out. I read a lot of reviews saying it had second book syndrome and wasn't nearly as good as the first. I bumped it down on my TBR and really wasn't all that excited to finally read it. However, probably due to my low expectations, I was pleasantly surprised. While I do agree that it wasn't as good as the first book, I still thoroughly enjoyed reading it and think it was a good continuation of Rory's story on Juniper Landing. This one did’t hold that same edge of your seat, turn the pages like a crazed lunatic sense that the first book did, but there was definitely enough suspense to propel you forward searching for answers. While the first book was told from both Rory's POV as well as serial killer, Steven Nell, this time we were given Rory's POV along with chapters from someone unknown. We knew this person was the reason everything started to go wrong on Juniper Landing but we didn't know who it was until the last few pages. I did end up guessing this mysterious person before the end, but I still had doubts and it wasn't so early on that it ruined the suspense. There's a fairly large cast of characters and it took me a while to remember who they all were. Some I never remembered and I'm not sure if that's because they weren't in the first book or my memory just stinks. I don't think it was imperative to remember anyway. I got to know them for their role in this book and that's all that matters.Sadly, there is still a six-month wait until the third book, ENDLESS, hits shelves. I would love to be able to dive right into it, but then again who wouldn't after finishing this?

In this sequel to "Shadowlands", Rory must cope with her new-found knowledge that she will never again walk among the land of the living and will remain on the tiny island of wandering souls forever. Rory can’t shake the feeling that, even in death, she’s still not safe—someone is trying to blame her for a series of mysterious events that could end up getting her sent to the Shadowlands for eternity. "Hereafter" is a gripping, fast-paced read that kept me guessing until the very end. I can’t wait for the last book in this trilogy!

With the ending of the last book, I knew I had to read this one. Not only is this book good, but it too also brought forth an unforgettable ending.Plot: Rory finds out exactly where she is and what she is to become. She begins to gain lots of knowledge and secrets that she must keep from her family. Throughout this story, it builds up nicely little by little with bit of drama and past history. Certain people’s motives become clear and others leave you unsure. This plot is full of entertainment and lots of questions.Love: This love interest is very complicated and carries lots of baggage. Little bits of Tristan’s past comes to light and it definitely left me intrigued as to what exactly is he hiding. Let just say that the ending brings an uncanny revelation that leave me jaw-dropped and heart broken. Tristan has a lot of explaining to do.Ending: The build up to the ending is the icing on the cake. When everything fell nicely together before the readers eyes and it click…BAM! Major OMG! I’m anxious for the next book cause I don’t want to believe that that is true! It can’t be. But if it is, well they had me fooled.Hereafter is an excellent addition that leaves you jaw-dropped. It is instantly captivating and excels in the plot Beautifully crafted into an amazing story, Hereafter is awesome!
