If you have read any of my other reviews, you'll know that I love Lauren Carr's Mac Faraday mysteries. It's Murder, My Son is no exception.Mac Faraday has just inherited millions from his mother who had given him up for adoption. Now, he is a retired police officer living it up. The ironic thing is that is exactly what his famous mystery writing mother's character, Forsythe did. Coincidence? I don't it especially when Mac finds himself solving a few murders and exposing many secrets of the town. The characters in Ms. Carr's book are wonderful. I have to say, and I think others will agree, that Gnarly is the best. The German Shepherd saves the day even when he is being sneaky and less than honorable. Each character is unique with such depth and humor. Mac is down to earth. Arnie knows how to live the good life without being a snob. David is one you just want to hug and hope he is single. And the neighbors? I'd have killed them, too.Did I figure out who the murderer was? Yes and no. The story was so well crafted with so many twists and turns that there was no one solution. There were many problems and many paths each one took. Absolutely loved it.You cannot be bored with a Lauren Carr book. I'd kill for the next one. (Hope I don't encounter Mac Faraday along the way).Note: This book was presented as part of a book tour with no expectation of a positive review.

Mac Faraday left his divorce hearing hating all lawyers, but the one who chased him down changed his life forever. As the heir to the Robin Spencer, "America's Queen of Mystery", fortune, he can lead a life of leisure. But as a former homicide detective, he has the skills to unravel the real-life murder mystery that threaten to consume his new life. Lauren Carr's first installment in her Mac Faraday series is an engrossing mystery that hooks the reader in the first chapter and doesn't let go until the very end. Although I guess bits and pieces of the solution, the complete solution was complicated enough to keep the most veteran mystery reader hanging on for the last bit of the answer. Great series.4 stars *Disclosure of Material Connection: I am a member of The Virtual Book Tour Cafe' and a copy of this book was provided to me by the author. 4 STARSThis is the first Mac Faraday Mystery. It's the second one I have read this week. I have found a new writer I like to read. Her Mysteries have lots of angles and lots of bad guys but thier has been lots of good guys too.In It's Murder, My son Mac Faraday just got divorced. His wife of twenty years as left him for another guy she was having an affair with she got the house and he got her credit card bills that he did not know about. After the divorce a lawyer came up and told him that his birth mother was famous mystery writer Robin Spencer and she died and left him a fortune. A 5 Star hotel & restraunt too.Mac quit his job and moved to the town of Spencer where Robin's family was named after. Where also a policeman was his half brother David lived. Mac found out his father died 5 years ago and he was the Chief of Police. So Mac did not know who or what his parents did also became a very good Murder detective for over 20 years.with his mansion came a smart trouble making dog named Gnarly and a guest house with Arche living in it for her life. Arche was his mother's editor and also helped do her research for her books.Mac found out his mom only had Gnarly for a little while because his owner was murder two houses away. Her husband did not want the dog and would not pay the vet bills after he almost died after his mistress was murdered. The story kept me up way late untill I could not keep my eyes open and finshed first thing this am. It has lots of humor along with all the mysteries going on in the story. Its entertaining. I guessed some of the answers but by no means all the answers.I badly wanted to go to the end and cheat late last night but I did not give in.Mac is not used to having money and what it can buy for you.I wished to find out more about his grown kids. Maybe in the next book that I read of his.If you like mystery story than I recommend you read Its Murder, My Son.I was given this ebook to read in exchange of honest review from Netgalley.06/28/2010 PUB CreateSpace Acorn Book Services

A murder next door to Mac, earlier connected murders, a small town filled with wealthy, cunning residents, a detective who is now a millionaire and also the illegitimate son of a recently deceased mystery-writing author, Robin Spencer, make up part of the "crew" in this well-written, intriguing murder mystery. And.....we can't forget Gnarly, a huge German Shepherd who steals food from anyone he can, causes havoc in the neighborhood, and even helps find clues for the murder investigations. The characters in this book are absolutely wonderful. You will fall in love the minute you meet Mac, the new millionaire, and Archie, Robin Spencer's assistant. Gnarly is a little scary and mischievous, but he grows on you. The small town of Spencer seems to be a dream town, but it is a haven for infidelity, a corrupt police force, and a creative author's twist of having mystery writers as characters. The eccentric, well-to-do neighbors enhance the storyline and bring a special focus to the plot. Each character has a background that won't quit and a background that you will love.Amusing, frightening, and unusual things do happen during the investigation that will keep your interest and keep you guessing until the last page. Just when you think you have the mystery solved, another character and more clues pop up leaving you still unsure. Lauren Carr is a master at and has a great knack for keeping you guessing. A great ending and lots of surprises make this book a treat for mystery lovers. If you haven't guessed it yet, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and give a huge, "gnarly" 5/5 for IT'S MURDER, MY SON and an equally-sized thank you to Ms. Carr for allowing me the pleasure of this read. It's Murder My Son is a great murder mystery! The author, Lauren Carr, writes a smooth and engaging story that keeps you reading. It's not an easy mystery that you can figure out in ten minutes, it's a novel that gets you thinking.Mac Faraday is a great main character. His life has turned upside down, first for the worst with his divorce and then for the better with his inheritance. But does a low-key ex-detective know what to do with all that money? It's fun going on the journey with him as he learns to adjust to his new home, new money, a new dog, and a new assistant. The other characters are also well written. Each one has his/her own quirks and there are lots of witty remarks tossed around to keep the subject of murder from getting too heavy. This is definitely the book to read for any mystery lover. Do not hesitate to snap this one up! Also, she has the second book in the Mac Faraday series out already, Old Loves Die Hard. I haven't read it yet, but will do so and have the review up in the next couple weeks, so stay tuned! *Disclaimer: I received this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review.

Intriguing at first, but gradually became contrived with too many twists and too little character development. The narrator was passable/tolerable, but not great.

Now that I've finished it, it was a good mystery. However, there were way too many characters and I kept getting them mixed up until I printed out the character list for reference. The three leads and Gnarly, the dog, were great. An orphraned man inherits his wealthy birth mother's estate and discovers murder, mobsters and dog who brings home a severed head. Mac, our new wealthy playboy, used to be a D.C. cop and can't leave the invesitigation alone while slowing falling for his mother's personal assistant an now his permanent guest house resident.
