About this audiobook

The next novel in Kristen Ashley's sizzling Colorado Mountain series introduces a new electrifying relationship that turns Carnal, Colorado into a hotbed of action, romance, and suspense.

An old flame rekindled . . .

Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn't interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara's lost her business, her marriage, and she's barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara's plight, he's on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers.

Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham's faced his own demons, and he's learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he's meant to live. So when he hears that Zara's having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he's a changed man.

Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

I have to start by saying that this is the first book I've read in this series. I have no back ground knowledge of these characters.
I had serious issues with Ham. He was too bossy, controlling, possessive, "Ugg me Man you woman", for me. I just cringed every time he was thrilled by her passive, easy personality. He doesn't get it but it really rubbed me wrong the whole concept.
Zara, She was the doormat for this guy to wipe his shoes on and come and go as he pleased. She was not important enough to herself to change this. I know, she was a victim of abuse and had serious issues. I don't like to read about people who are down and accept it, even for a while. She does get up and stand but it was too late for my comfort as a reader.
I love this author's Rock Chick series and I do love her writing. This book's characters and story just did not work for me in anyway. I will continue to follow her work but not this series.

Man, this couple can fight! LOL. I did find them to be a little immature with all the carrying on they did. I liked that not as much time was spent describing clothes, jewelry, furnishings and such as with some KA books. I also felt like Ham was a little more realistic that some of the other alphas. Overall it was a win for me.

    5 stars! KA rocked it!

So do I even need to say that I am a HUGE fan of Kristen Ashley's work? The Colorado Mountain series is one of my all time favorites! Her second book in that series, Sweet Dreams, is my favorite book. Period! I love that Kristen Ashley can write amazing alpha males who can compliment such quirky female leads. She creates the perfect balance of silly, sexy and heart felt. She does not disappoint with Jagged! The old KA is back!! I loved every word and every moment that involved Reece (Ham). He made the transition from traveler to committed man seamlessly, it just took him a little while to get there. Zara is one of Kristen Ashley's stronger female leads, not as quirky and goofy as some of the others. I could relate to her emotions and personal struggles. And oh yes, Kristen Ashley brings the steam as always. Ham is pure hotness and so amazing but I didn't expect anything less. Jagged is a definite new favorite. I look forward to more!!

Knowing full well that Ham Reece will never give up his wanderlust and settle down, Zara Cinders does the only thing she can and walks away. Three years later, Zara is in dire straights after losing her business and failing at her marriage. Thus, when Ham arrives on her doorstep with the offer of a job and a place to stay, Zara cannot afford to refuse even as she vows to protect her heart from being broken once again. Ham, however, is a changed man and regrets the past. But convincing Zara that he wants something more than a temporary fling will be no easy feat.

Series note: It is necessary to read For You book #1 in The Burg series prior to this book for the back story.

Sadly, I must concur with the majority of reviewers that this is the weakest of Kristen Ashley's books. Regardless of the fact that second chance romances are not a preferred trope of mine, Ham and Zara's relationship is marred by other more significant issues, namely Ham's annoying personality and the lack of a cohesive plot.

Possessive, domineering and arrogant heroes are Ashley's specialty, yet she always manages to focus on the positive aspects of these traits, and makes it possible for the reader to look past the surface flaws to the sweet, caring and besotted man beneath the exasperating façade.

Unfortunately, this is not the case with Ham. Not only is he patronizing, condescending and egotistical, but he is also a misogynist and this does not change as the story progresses. His idea of the perfect woman is one who adapts herself to his needs and desires, and never questions his words or actions.

Alas, despite exhibiting some minor backbone at the beginning of the book, Zara devolves into exactly the type of doormat heroine who would give into the selfish demands of this pathetic excuse for a hero.

The romance is further undermined by the fact that Ham has a past sexual relationship with another woman, which is never satisfactorily resolved despite his protestations to the contrary. Given the facts of her situation and his attitude when her name is mentioned, it is difficult to believe that Zara is anything more than his second choice.

The secondary storyline involving Zara's abusive and destructive family has potential, but the episodes involving them are interspersed between Zara and Ham's personal angst. Consequently, it never becomes an integral part of the plot.

In sum, both the romance and the characters in this one are disappointing. Ham is the worst KA hero to date and all attempts to convince the reader of his worthiness are an epic failure. Thankfully, this is not my first KA book and her stories are usually far more appealing. If this were not the case, I might have been tempted to call it quits on her work.

2.5 stars Gah! I absolutely loved the other books in this series so I took a short break from this series and then jumped back in with know doubt this would be another winner. Unfortunately it wasn't even close. I just couldn't get into this one...and I've go to say it is the first Kristen Ashley book I haven't loved. The connection between Ham and Zara just wasn't believable, not to mention the plot was weak.

Good think I have loved all of her other books and this won't keep me from reading other books of hers!

Oh. My. God! I think I'm going to give my firstborn to Kristen Ashley if she keeps writing stuff like this. Incredible. Amazing. Heart wrenching. Sad. Hot. Funny. This was a big sack of beautiful emotions all jumbled up together to create that magic that is Ham and Zara. The love that transpired through these pages and all the fun things we got to see them doing was the freaking bomb! Can't wait for more!

more like 3.5 stars. Glad there was no kidnapping, murder or other life risking behavior. I have a few issues with the nicknames Ham and Cookie so I couldn't lose myself in this story. I wanted to like it more but this one is not KA's best. I love this series and look forward to the next book.

I absolutely love Kristen Ashley's books, but this is a new series for me cause I just recently found her. I know...I must've been living under a rock or something! I've read the Rock Chicks, Dream Men, Chaos series and started the Unfinished Heroes and loved every steamy adrenalin soaked minute of them and had heard of the Colorado series, but hadn't dived into them yet so when this book came up on Netgalley I figured it be the perfect chance to try it. I'm glad I did! Though, I must admit to taking a couple extra days to read it because the first 1/3 is completely emotionally exhausting....well, the whole book is emotional, but the beginning was rough. I admit to shedding a few tears. Zara was such a strong woman to grow up the way she did and to be able to deal with Ham the way she did. I honesty don't think I could've walked away. And Ham....what can you say about Ham? He's completely an alpha man that's for sure, but he's also kind, affectionate, protective, sexy, gruff, sometimes a little dickish, but you always know where you stand with him. Loved the entire book. Every bit of sadness, happiness, the incredible sex, the vishious fighting, just everything. So, why did I take half a star away? Well, he sounds like every guy in the above series I mentioned. The way they talk with clipped short sentences and certain mannerisms. As Ham is talking I can picture Tack or Mitch or Lee saying the exact same thing the exact same way. It's not bad, just the same. Would and will still recommend this book to every single reader I know. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

The Colorado series is one of my favorite by KA. I admit there are still some of her stories that I have not read, I am a little hesitant as they are different from what I usually read of her’s. Someday soon though I will decide to jump in to them and not look back.

A KA book what is not to love about it. Kristen is my favorite author of all time, so any chance I can get to jump into something she has written I jump feet first and don’t look back. This story was no different. Kristen brought us another great story with Zara and Reece.

Zara and Reece met years before at a bar. They hit it off pretty good, but with Reece nothing is ever permanent as he is a travelling man. He never stays in one place very long.

Years later Zara has had a failed marriage she is living in a crap apartment, struggling just to get her next meal. When Reece hears that she is struggling he comes storming back into town to help her out. Will Zara let Reece help her? She resists him at first, after all she does not want him to walk out of her life this time around. Can Reece settle down?

“Cookie, pay attention. I’m gonna give you everything.”

I loved Reece, alpha man, but a little different from what KA usually writes. He showed us how much he does love Zara and the lengths he would go to for her.

I loved how the story unfolded with these two characters. We saw just how great the lengths one will go to just to prove their love. This was a beautiful second chance at love story.

You get drama as well, there is a lot of it from Zara’s side of the story. Secrets are revealed, lies found out. How will Zara and Reece deal with the things they find out.

‘Life has certain things planned. For some people it takes you places you don’t want to go but the path leads to where you need to be.’

She has a way about drawing in the reader until they know nothing else other than her characters. This book was full of heartbreaking revelations and a lot of touching words. These two characters (Zara and Ham—love the names by the way) were truly and without a doubt, made for one another. They had to stand against test after test, but Kristen managed to pull them—and us—through. If you are looking for a book that will grip you from page one to the end, this is it. If you’re looking for a book that shows true life and the strength needed to get through each day, then this is it. If you’re looking for happy faces, red roses, and puffy clouds, look away. This book will make you—as the reader—really dig inside to discover just who you are and how you’d react in the same situation. What a lovely love story attached, though! Four out of five stars!
