About this audiobook

NOW A HIT NETFLIX SERIES
A NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLER

“Hypnotic and scary.” —Stephen King

“I am riveted, aghast, aroused, you name it. The rare instance when prose and plot are equally delicious.” —Lena Dunham

From debut author Caroline Kepnes comes You, one of Suspense Magazine’s Best Books of the Year, and a brilliant and terrifying novel for the social media age.

When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.

There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.

As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.

A terrifying exploration of how vulnerable we all are to stalking and manipulation, debut author Caroline Kepnes delivers a razor-sharp novel for our hyper-connected digital age. You is a compulsively readable page-turner that’s being compared to Gone Girl, American Psycho, and Stephen King’s Misery.

Editor's Note

Stalking you…

“Gone Girl” meets “Gossip Girl” in this extremely unnerving novel about how easy it is to become prey to stalking (or, to become a stalker yourself) in this hyper-connected digital age. It’s now a hit TV series starring Penn Badgley in a role that’s essentially an adult, much-creepier Dan Humphrey.

    Audiobook: Narrator – Santino Fontana
Oh man! This narrator totally sold me on this character and this story. This wasn’t someone reading a story and changing their voice here and there, this was vocal acting. I’m not sure that I’ve ever listened to anything as well performed as this. I could almost feel the sweat, the spittle and the evil from Joe.

So, I fell into the hype about this book (haven’t watched the series) and I loved it. Holy heck! I never thought I could even halfway approve of a story written completely in a psycho’s point of view, but I did. While I didn’t love Joe, I enjoyed the heck out of listening to him rationalize his thought processes, decisions and ultimately actions. This author did a stupendous job of showcasing his emotional ups and downs. There were times I actually liked him and times I was sickened by him, and in the end what it all amounted up to was that I was totally captivated by this story.

The voice who read over this really sounds Joe and I like how he changes his voice when talking as other characters. Makes me sleepy sometimes lol but that’s how mesmerizing the reader is

If your idea of a good read is reading from the perspective of a murdering sociopath, then this is the book for you!

Way too drawn out and no suspense. Predictable. Beck is annoying and whiny.

I enjoyed watching You on Netflix so much that when I am folding laundry I keep season 1 playing in the background. I wasn't going to read the book because I thought that Joe couldn't be more violent and sick in the novel. I was wrong. Book Joe is nothing like the psycho narcissist TV Joe. I think Penn Badgley portrayed Joe perfectly after reading You, but Netflix definitely toned down how just deranged Joe truly could be.

I am going to continue this series.

Wow, this is soo much more detailed than the show. I like how the show went in a different direction as a lot of what happens in the book wouldn’t translate well into a show. This was a well written story that shows Joe for what he is; a whiny, self entitled and judgemental prick! It’s amazing to me how delusional he is and how he speaks to himself about his world. I recommend you listen to or read this book!

This book was... disturbing. Way, way more disturbing than the show. Whoever wrote the show, gave Joe empathy. In the book, he has none.
Also, the p-word (another word used for a woman's vagina) was overused, in my opinion. I probably won't continue the series.

Not to be all the show is better, but the show is better ? pretty violent concepts and much more sexist and crass than the show. But still a pretty good read!

I was very hesitant towards this book.
Don't care much for The profound language used at some points in the book. But ut does contribute to paint a picture of the main character.

Got drawn into it and when finished it did leave me feeling that I need to watch over my shoulder and get away from social media...

This book caught me off guard. The raw internal monologue of Joe was thrilling but also frightening. It really made you wonder about coincidence versus planning. It made you rethink all those chance run ins with a old lover or seeing the same person at multiple places. Turn your paranoia radar way up after this read. It was a fast paced and I was left wanting more. What happens next?!

I loved the audio reader, the voices we done very well. The book was good, coming from someone who watched the show first, I think I enjoyed the book better. It's not to graphic, but it's got some parts that made me cringe lol

I read this as sort of a pregame before I watch the series on Netflix. I love thrillers and this was something new to me. It was the first time I read a thriller novel with 2nd person POV. And Joe's narration, just wow. His character was so complex that it made me question myself whether it was sane or not to kind of root for him. He has that effect, I guess.

A friend loaned me this book with the disclaimer that she bought it based on the back cover blurb alone. As soon as you start reading, the language is pretty brutal and it’s VERY creepy. Overall I couldn't put it down and have already sought out the follow-up, so what does that say about me? Ha. It was very twisted but I think a lot of the language was over-the-top, and while it didn’t seem out of character for Joe, it could have been taken out and he would come off just as creepy and horrible.
