About this audiobook

A gripping novel based on the astonishing true story of a boy who survived 10 concentration camps. Based on the true story by Ruth and Jack Gruener.

Ten concentration camps. Ten different places where you are starved, tortured, and worked mercilessly. It's something no one could imagine surviving. But it is what Yanek Gruener has to face.

As a Jewish boy in 1930s Poland, Yanek is at the mercy of the Nazis, who have taken over. Everything he has and everyone he loves have been snatched brutally from him. And then Yanek himself is taken prisoner — his arm tattooed with the words PRISONER B-3087. He is forced from one nightmarish concentration camp to another as World War II rages all around him. He encounters evil he could have never imagined but also sees surprising glimpses of hope amid the horror. He just barely escapes death only to confront it again seconds later.

Can Yanek make it through the terror without losing his hope, his will — and, most of all, his sense of who he really is inside?

Right now I have a big thing for World War 2 books and this book was exactly what I love to read/listen to. At some points it was really sad while others you had no idea what was going on. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is either learning or interested in World War 2. It really gives you a feeling of what concentration camps were like. There where some more violent parts so I recommend that younger children don’t read this book but other then that it was a pretty good book.

What sets "Prisoner B-3087" apart is its ability to transport readers into the heart of the Holocaust through the eyes of its young protagonist, Yanek Gruener. Sobering account of a courageous young man. May this and other similar stories never be forgotten or “conveniently” erased from history. Those who fail to learn from the past risk repeating it.

I didnt realize this was a young adult fiction story, but I stuck with it because it was a short read. Well done, I think it would be good introductory material for a high school student.

I’ve heard this book was good for “younger” readers to learn about the holocaust in a not totally graphic way. However, I’d say this book is way too graphic for my 4th graders. More appropriate for grades 6+ (maybe, maybe 5th). It’s nonetheless a fantastically written piece of Holocaust literature that needs to be read by all.
