About this audiobook

With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover, Eric Northman, and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot-which is much more complicated than she knows. Caught up once again in the politics of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is as much of a pawn as any ordinary human-and that there is a new queen on the board

While I'm a Sookie fan to a degree I can't really say I enjoyed these books as much as others. It often seemed to me I was reading the same story over and over again just with slightly different characters. Not to say that I wouldn't recommend these to others that enjoy a good supernatural romance with a bit of mystery, they simply weren't for me.

Once again not much plot! Why do I keep reading these? Light relief and Sookie is quite entertaining.

I really am a sucker for this series. I think it has a lot to do with my love for the True Blood series. I read the books first before the show, but after seeing the show I realized how many holes there are in the writing. It seems like the author forgets what she told us in her last book and brings new twists in without really developing them. However, it is a great story if you suspend your disbelief.

Another perfectly serviceable Sookie Stackhouse novel, but nothing that will win a Pulitzer anytime soon. Best left to lovers of the Stackhouse mysteries, this is a book so light that it practically floats, but it's an enjoyable quick read.

I love this series. It’s easy to listen to passively & the stories are excellent.

Sookie is a girl who over a short period of time has managed to collect many enemies, but while some will go all out to get her or die trying, others are already dead. Living in this state of constant danger, knowing that at any moment someone could strike her down, is taking its toll and as Sookie's enemies move against her and those she loves, Sookie and the gang decide it time to take matters into their own hands. As a telepath Sookie is used to keeping secrets, many of them not even her own; however she is not so used to having secrets kept from her. Now it seems that all those closest to her, all those whose thoughts she can't hear, are keeping things from her. But meanwhile Sookie is distracted with the discovery of the truth of her past, her realization of her true feelings for her vampire husband and her admitting to herself what she truly wants from her life.Dead Reckoning is less the murder mystery that we have come to expect from this series and more a murder plot, with the one exception of a spur of the moment killing. There is plenty to sink your teeth into in this book, killers on the loose, vampire politics, treasures revealed, fairy plots and a baby showing to throw. But underneath it all is the continuing story of Sookie that is just as amazing, horrible and addictive as ever. Also look out for an appearance from Charlaine's other heroine Lily Bard.

Once again, I started another Sookie Stackhouse novel, not being able to remember who was who, and what was going on... and yet, I got sucked in! Harris does this to me, every time. The fact that Lily Bard and her BF Jack were there were a lovingly done, but very brief added bonus, that I thrilled at (having just finished the Shakespeare series recently).
An easy read, but altered from the original works, and seemingly watered down somehow. But with just enough back story and momentum to keep me interested enough to finish it a day later. But with a lot of loose ends, to keep one coming back for more. lol

There were a lot of plots in this book that never seem to really come together and that really pulled me out of the book. The ending seemed really rushed and a little random. That being said, I adore Dermont and really hope that he doesn't turn out to be a bad guy. He seems to truly care about Sookie and it would be a shame if he had ulterior motives. It was also fun to read about Adele's past, thought it was hard to believe it at first.

I like the series. It's the same as the rest of the series. I realized near the end that I had read it before but since I had basically finished it I'm marking it as read now.

I have loved many of the books in this series but the last three have been odd. If feels like Ms. Harris is tired of the series but has to finish her contract. She is a great story teller but in the last 3 or 4 books the characters have lost some of their vitality and a lot of their action seems wooden and strange. I never thought I'd say this but I'm ready for this series to end.

I thought this book was pretty good. Not my favorite book, but it was nice to find out more info about Sookie's Grandmother's past. Sookie did get on my nervous a few times. She really shouldn't be so wishy washy. You date vampires girl get used to there being blood and violence.

Compared to the start of the southern vampire series, this book seemed to lack something. Interesting storyline, yet at times felt a little rushed.

I like these books, I've realized, because for me, following Sookie Stackhouse's mundane chores and decisions is entertaining. It makes me appreciate the little things a bit, to walk through the day-to-day of her life with her. But this book seemed almost solely comprised of minutia. There wasn't really enough development and action for me. Still, I enjoyed it.

I absolutely loved this book and this series! I got involved with this series before True Blood became a show and I couldn't quit reading. I ended up getting all caught up and then had to wait each year for the next to come out until Harris finally reached the end of the series (I was devastated and wanted more Sookie Stackhouse in my life). It's been nearly 10 years since I read the first one and probably getting close to time for a re-read!

Unfortunately, this installment in the Sookie Stackhouse series continues in the same vein as the previous book with a confusing mess of disjointed plot threads that never seem to come together.

While the individual story lines (the plan to dispose of Victor, the vampire regent threatening Eric's interests, the newest attempts by the obsessively psychopathic Sandra Pelt to dispose of Sookie, and the continued revelations concerning the faerie branch of her family tree), all have tremendous potential, the are thrown together haphazardly with no coherent flow or connection resulting in a book devoid of any atmosphere, tension or suspense.

In terms of Sookie's love-life, it is clear that Harris is moving in a specific direction with regard to her romantic future. Although the choice is probably the most suitable given Sookie's nature, it results in some very questionable characterization as the author attempts to remove all obstacles to this pairing by undermining Sookie's relationships with previous contenders. Thus, Eric, Bill and Alcide (no Quinn interestingly enough) behave in ways that are exceedingly strange and inconsistent with their previous actions. Eric in particular is transformed from the confident, charming and sexy alpha vampire into a hesitant and insecure shadow of his former self.

Altogether, a rather disappointing addition to the series, but I an invested enough in Sookie and her friends to continue on and find out how it all ends.

Starting to really not care about this series anymore. The story line was becoming more ridiculous with each book and this book actually brought nothing to the table. It was still an entertaining read; it just didn't grab me. Wondering if I'll pick up the next book or just abandon the series.

More like 3.5 stars but I rounded up because this was definitely better than Dead in the Family, though still lacking that certain something from earlier books.

I think maybe Harris has run out of places for Sookie's storyline to go and supernatural creatures for her to meet. At this point, Sookie should be more careful about avoiding dangerous situations and whatnot. I think I'm tiring of this.

It took me a little while to get back into Ms Harris's style of writing. I mostly liked this installment in the Sookie Stackhouse novels, but as usual, I am somewhat ambivalent about Sookie.
I would recommend this to fans of True Blood, however I would love to see the lead character decide whether she is a victim or a heroine. And she really, really needs to take something for her ADD.

Sookie KNOWS that someone wants to kill her, not just one someone either...and most of the book is about Sookie's peril, everyone's hatred of Victor, & Sookie's family....

I can not even begin to believe that anyone could be as STOOPID as Sookie was in this book (and I know she has done some pretty dumb things before)....to imperil herself & everyone else as she did....... Not to mention she has poor choice in (so called) friends....

Some of the events were totally unbelievable & out of character of the people who were involved.

    **************************************SPOILER*********************************
That she should come home & find Alcide in her bed, butt-nekked, waiting to make her his mate! That is So Totally Out of His Character, it's not even funny.

    ******************************************************************************

It makes me not want to even continue......

Sookie's story coasts along in Dead Reckoning. The book focuses on Sookie and her family -- both ancestors and modern, and her feelings about her relationship with Eric are also at the forefront. One main plot point was resolved but the story may have ended with more new plot lines opened than old ones closed. I am curious as to whether Charlaine Harris watches True Blood, and whether or not it would affect her storytelling as the story moves forward...

Sookie is preparing to host a baby shower for Tara. Meanwhile Sam's bar Merlotte's, Sookies workplace, comes under attack and a new bar is opened nearby drawing away customers on top of the tension due to the coming out of the weres. Fangtasia too gets competition from a new venture opened by Victor, the new regent for Louisiana. Victor is looking for ways to provoke Eric in order to legitimately get rid of him.
Number 11 in the Sookie Stackhouse series is very much an entry into a series. As a standalone book it would not be a terribly satisfying read as the plot picks up loose ends from earlier books and the stage seems to be set for the next entry. There are appearances by a lot of characters from earlier books and not all of them are really involved in this book's plot.
A nice enough read in the series, but not my favorite.

I really enjoyed these books when they were about some mystery to solve, but now it's just "Let's see what Sookie is doing today" or just random soap-opera-ish happenings. Sookie continues to be a dim bulb, a trait that stopped being endearing around five books ago and now she just comes off as your average Mary Sue character. The only way Sookie's love-life is going to continue to be interesting is if she starts doing Pam, because the men in her life are ridiculously whiny.

I was at least pleased that there were no cringe-worthy True Blood references like in the last book.

I'll give Harris one more shot with the next book but I've pretty much lost interest in this series.

So I didn't enjoy this one as much as the one that comes after it but I am fairly certain that has a lot to do with knowing what was coming next. It just wasn't as much fun to listen to as it could have been....

I will say this, Sookie has gotten much smarter since the series started. I no longer feel like she is playing the dumb small town girl. She uses a grown up vocabulary and rarely defaults to the I'm so proud of myself for using the right word attitude anymore, thank goodness.

This book is definitely one of the more dangerous books in the series. I was surprised at some of the decisions made and plans executed. I also think that the world Sookie lives in is getting more and more dangerous for her. I also think that too because of the announcement Ms. Harris made about number 13 being the last book in the series. So...we only have 2 more books to find out if there will even be a HEA for Sookie...if she even survives.

I was sad to at some of the things Eric is doing in this book. I mean...we know he is Eric but...I though he had more common sense and love for Sookie than he showed in this book. I can't wait to read the rest of the series, this book will keep you on your toes!

I was super disappointed with this one. I loved the early Sookie Stackhouse books but I feel like Harris is just cranking them out too quickly & it shows in the writing & the plot lines.
This one was so not memorable that I forgot I read it back in 2011 & I made it thru a couple of chapters today before realizing I had already read it.
Fingers crossed the next one is better.

Dead Reckoning left me feeling flat. I've enjoyed all the books in the series so far (yes, even 9 and 10), but this? This was beyond pale.

Weak, flat story with no real action, danger or mystery. Predictable to the extreme and all of it told instead of shown. No character development at all - in fact, pages and pages of nothing really happening.

A flicker of interesting happened when Sookie went with Hunter to size up his new school, but once again, everything was told and then it's the last we hear of Hunter (whose relationship with Sookie could be a really invigorating change to what's become a plot-by-numbers series). When I say "everything is told", I mean "everything is told". Almost zero showing going on. Like with Tara's baby shower, we are told there are some women and a few names are mentioned, and we are told Sookie is told a really nice story about her gran and we're assured that this makes her feel better.

Yeah. The whole book is basically like that.

I don't know, it's as if the TV series has sucked the blood and originality out of the books, which is funny considering that they're only similar in an "inspired by the books" kind of way, and it's almost as if Charlaine Harris herself is getting bored with it all.

THIS IS WHY SERIES SHOULD END AT SOME POINT. Ahem. Just sayin'.

Still, I did find it intriguing enough to finish, and it had one or two fun moments, so two stars it is.
