About this audiobook

After seven years as a Chicago homicide detective, Lisa Grant has hit a wall. Ready for a kinder, gentler life, she takes a job as a small-town police chief. But the discovery of a human skeleton by a construction crew at the edge of town taxes the resources of her department. A call for assistance brings detective Mac McGregor, an ex-Navy SEAL, to her doorstep. As they work to solve the mystery behind the unmarked grave, danger begins to shadow them. Someone doesn't want this dead person telling any tales--and will stop at nothing to make certain a life-shattering secret stays buried. Master storyteller Irene Hannon is back with an exciting new series featuring former special forces operatives now in the thick of the action in civilian life. Hannon is at the top of her game in this can't-put-it-down thriller that will have readers up until the wee hours devouring every page.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like the book at first but was I wrong. This book was great. Great thriller book.

I've read other books by this author and liked them well enough to put her earlier titles on my TBR list. This is the third earlier series of hers from which I've read at least one book and sadly, all of them seem very similar and use a similar plot outline--which is getting old for me.Just once I'd like it if the woman could be the one who's the rescuer instead of the man having to rescue the woman. There is a bit of a twist to the plot in this book in that both of the main characters are law enforcement--so I was hopeful that Lisa would not end up in a situation where she needed Mac to rescue her. Alas, that particular plot point still happened. That said, I did like both main characters. Mac is a former SEAL, turned police detective who's somewhat new to the St. Louis area. Lisa was a detective in Chicago who is now the Police Chief in Carson. Both have religious backgrounds and both seemed to have been raised by caring parents who instilled good character. I suspect the other two books in this series will deal with Mac's brothers (though I haven't looked at any synopses to confirm that).

Stress had taken a toll on Lisa Grant’s life so she gave up her detective job in Chicago to work as a police chief in the small town of Carson. The easier pace was doing wonders for her, that is, until a construction crew dug up a human skeleton. Mac McGregor left the SEALs for a quieter kind of job. Now working as a county detective, they send him to Carson to assist Lisa Grant in solving who they found in the unmarked grave. Though their initial meeting doesn't go so well, it's not long before they gain a deep respect for one another along with a deep attraction as well. As they work together to gather information and evidence about what happened all those years ago, it becomes apparent that someone doesn't want the truth to be revealed and is willing to go to any lengths to keep the secrets buried. This was a great start to Irene Hannon's Men of Valor series. It really was the perfect blend of suspense and romance. One thing I really liked was that even though Lisa was a police chief, she wasn't an 'in-your-face', hard, type woman. She was a nice combination of strong yet soft. Mac was a great guy, the kind of hero I like reading about. He was strong yet tender and comfortable in his own skin. I loved the way he was with Lisa. One thing I thoroughly enjoyed was the McGregor brothers. The interaction and banter between them was so much fun. I am looking forward to getting to know those brothers better. I appreciated that both Mac and Lisa had a personal faith that got them through the difficult things they faced. It was a great reminder that God is in control, of everything whether good or bad. If you enjoy romantic suspense then this is one I would highly recommend. If you don't believe me, head on over to Carson and see just what Buried Secrets will be revealed.

Buried Secrets, a novel by Irene Hannon, begins with the cover up of a crime told from the perspective of the mastermind. We’re not told how or why the victim was killed but we know that those involved don’t want to be caught. The story picks up years later when the victim’s remains are found on a construction site. That’s when Lisa Grant, the police chief in a suburb of St. Louis, joins forces with Mac McGregor, a county detective and ex-Navy SEAL. Even though they initially get off on the wrong foot, they are instantly attracted to each other. The suspense builds as we meet the killers and their desperate and devious attempts to avoid capture. This book falls under the category of Christian fiction, but it’s subtle. On her website, the author (award winner and author of more than 45 books) writes: For me, the faith element is organic to the story because at least one of my main characters has a strong faith that guides his or her life. But my books aren’t preachy. The faith content is subtle and reflected more in characters’ actions than in words. I prefer to show characters living their faith rather than talking about it.If you like a lot of romance with murder and suspense, you’ll like this book.I received a free book from Revell (a division of Baker Publishing Group) in exchange for an unbiased review.

Irene Hannon has quickly become my go-to author for romantic suspense. With believable and relatable characters, plots full of twists and turns and a faith message that is natural, never preachy, her books are the ideal way to spend my leisure time. Whether you enjoy reading on the porch, the couch, or the chaise lounge, Buried Secrets is a sure bet for time well spent.Former Chicago P.D. detective Lisa Grant has made some major changes in her life as she settles into her role as a small town police chief. Ex-Navy SEAL Mac MacGregor has given up his adrenaline laced life for a quieter job with the Sheriff’s department. A discovery of long buried bones brings them together, and the sparks fly right from the start. As they seek to keep their personal and professional lives in order, the investigation leads them to long buried secrets and deceptions. The romance in Buried Secrets is front and center. Lisa and Mac are immediately attracted to each other, though they keep their relationship professional, at least until the case is closed. Both characters develop naturally and are easy to relate to. Their faith is also a natural part of who they are; there are no artificial scenes or sermons to make them seem super-spriritual. They are Christians who struggle with faith and trust just like in real life. And while I enjoyed Lisa and Mac, it was the villain that kept my attention. I appreciated that Hannon created a smart and street-wise woman to play the part of her psychopath, Jessica Lee. The reader is clued into whodunit early on, and the book becomes a race between the police seeking to prove her culpability and her attempts to allude detection. The cat and mouse game proves deadly until the last pages of the novel. I loved the matching of wits between Lisa and Jessica as each sought to exploit the other’s weaknesses. And it is definitely true that pride goes before a fall! All in all I recommend this page-turning suspense novel with a hefty dollop of romance and anxiously await the other books in the series.Recommended.Audience: adults. To purchase this book, click HERE.(Thanks to Revell for a review copy. This is one can’t put down thriller, a real page-turner, and happily there are more books to come in this series! I can’t wait!I can imagine the pain of a family of not knowing where their daughter is, she had come to the States to learn, and then disappears? Now twenty-four years later her body has been found, and through modern technology she has been found and identified. The questions are flying now, how did the body get under that tree and how did she die?We meet some interesting people here, a small town Sheriff Lisa Grant, and a former Navy SEAL and now Police Detective Mac McGregor. Now thrown together in this investigation, and what they find will put them in danger. Someone does not want this dead person talking and will go to any measure to stop it, including murder. What a lot of surprises you are going to be in for, and they are shocking and conniving, and so much evil. A psychopath on the loose, and will stop at nothing to achieve what they want and feel is their due, no one is going to be safe here.We do experience some happy family reunions and the start of budding romance, and I see that there will be another book including the McGregor family. If you enjoy mystery and intrigue and never wanting a book to end, and yet you want to know what is going to happen, then this book is definitely for you. Don’t miss this amazing read!I received this book as part of the Revell Book Bloggers Tour, and was not required to give a positive review.
