This book took me about 8 months to listen to because of the emotional aspect of it. It was extremely sad and descriptive, but also very well written. The author took time to interview true survivors and that made it heart-wrenching for me at times. The details about baking and the bakery were amazing. It made my mouth water every time Sage or Minka talked about their rolls!

An beautiful story, but it should have been shorter. The plot twist is truly amazing.

Amazing story, beautifully told, the kind of book that you don’t want it to end.

What made this story about stories so enjoyable is it’s a story that didn’t end even after it was completed.

I read this book...I hated it then, but thought I’d give it another shot, by listening. It’s the way Josef is judged...Sage talks about 1 jew being interchangeable for another...that everyone believes this & earlier in the novel Sage uses the word SHISKA.

An insult...one JEWS use to insult white gentiles. But that’s okay apparently, they can name call, refer to us interchangeably...and that’s just OK.

    No it actually IS NOT.

I can’t force myself to listen to this hypocritical TRIPE.

I choose to not continue. Cheating spouses are a hard no for me.

Such a well told narrative. But I think a warning needs to be put on it: this is a book on the Holocaust. It has an extended narrative retelling of the horrors the Jews experienced at the hands of the Nazis. I was a little unprepared for this but I enjoyed the interweaving of generational stories and the impact of experiences on the following generations. Be prepared for a twist at the end.

This was not what I thought it was about. I am in love with this book. Of course, it's not at all what it said it's about. Perfect!
